Those companies that don't have really well thought out business models and are driven by a need to spend money to capture customers and maybe make it some time in the future are toast.

What's happening right now is that as the industry matures, we're testing business models. For those companies that have business models where you are driven by a diverse source of revenue stream and where revenues are higher than expenses, you are going to do fine.

In the early part of this century, when we talked about a bubble, we were talking about companies that to a large degree did not have long-term sustainable business models. It is different now. The business models are stronger. There is a lot more meat on the bone.

These guys have grown very quickly and business models shift and evolve in the business world. It's hard to assign anything dramatic to the stock drop. If you asked Amazon a year ago whether they thought they'd have 16 million customers, I'm sure they wouldn't have known; they're evolving. They should be cut some slack.

We're seeing a great shift in how consumers spend money, and our business models need to be flexible. It used to be said that content was king, but the consumer is king.

The dot.com businesses started out with all these different business models. It wasn't clear that anyone really knew how they were going to make money, and we've had that fallout and transition, ... At the same time, a lot of established businesses picked up on the Web.

It's always good for Scots to get together. There will be a toast to the queen and a toast to the president. Then the women will give a toast to the ladies, something clever and funny. And then there is a toast to the lassies. There will be many toasts that evening.

There's a stench of burnt toast coming out of all these news reports, ... It's very, very thought contagious. And if it spreads across the techs and venture capital companies in Silicon Valley, it will make Enron look like small change.
