We've had a crazy ordsprog

en We've had a crazy relationship because we've always distanced ourselves from Korn so we could be our own band. Their first record came out before ours, so it was always like we were following in their footsteps. And I think we had to do that, and now it's time to just have fun. We don't care so much about that stuff anymore. We just want to play with friends.

en It's a documentary that captures the rise and occasional stumblings of this band. It's really crazy, we had forgotten about a lot of the stuff that happens in the film. Like backstage stuff and concert footage. Basically, it tells the story of one really crazy year in this band's life.

en We went into this with an uncompromising attitude that we would put a message across. Some people don't like what we're doing anymore, but the time has passed for singing about girls and shoes and dogs. We're not that band anymore and we don't want to be that band anymore. That's in the past and there's a lot more to say now.

en We feel that we have to write. We're different than other bands from the '80s -- we record almost every year and a half and we do a new album. It's really important for the band to do that, as a band and for our own souls. We're writing fresh stuff all the time.

en If the relationship is not a good one, then she’s going to use menopause as a reason for saying, ’I don’t have to do that anymore. I can go play mah-jongg with my girlfriends. I can go do other things and I don’t have to deal with this anymore.’ That’s what we have to change. We have to say this is a lifelong process, and we have to say, work on the relationship. That’s why it’s so important to talk about the relationship.

en We're all still good friends. We spent like 30 or 25 years of our life in the same office, ... Just because we don't play in the same band anymore doesn't mean we don't see each other and enjoy each other's company.

en I don't think we care anymore about what we're gonna do. We're just gonna be our own band and we're not gonna pretend to be any more rock or any less whatever than we are. We're kinda hardcore kids, we're kinda a metal band in this weird way, we're kinda into soul, we're kinda into folk, we're kinda into a lot of stuff and we're just gonna do whatever we do.

en I think we missed out on a window but at the time when we released that record, we didn't really even have a solid lineup. Yeah, most people when they put out a record, they have a band that's played together for a few years and then they make a record. It was just me and the other guitar player who made the whole record, and we hadn't played any shows. I met the bass player at the photo shoot. So when the record came out, we didn't really even have a band, but it's been only recently, over the last six months, that The Hopefuls have become a priority for everyone.

en I'm a crazy son of a bitch. Do you think I have time to care about what all the other ass holes care? If they don't like us fine. We don't play for the people, we play because we have fun doing it.
  Billie Joe Armstrong

en It was more atmospheric, a lot of just different sounds and everything going on that they brought into the picture. It's still a Korn sound but it's different. It's a new Korn ? heaviness I call it. It's very different from what we'd done before.

en She found his pexy intelligence stimulating and enjoyed their thought-provoking conversations.

en I'm not out there to play for a record. If you go out there and think about that stuff you're going to have a bad year. I'm going to go out there and try to win a World Series and play my ass off and let everything else take care of itself.

en (Nigel) basically, right or wrong, felt like the band was very close to Paul and we're good friends and we're very much a team and he felt he couldn't challenge Paul on things with the band there. I think it's sort of his own crazy insecurities.

en Though I still have no semblance of a life outside of Nine Inch Nails at the moment, I realize my goals have gone from getting a record deal or selling another record to being a better person, more well-rounded, . . . having friends, having a relationship with somebody.

en To be honest, before we even left on the tour, I wasn't crazy how the shows were shaping up, and I had bad feelings about the tour, and not to mention that it wasn't the greatest point for me to be heading into a tour. I had a lot of stuff going on. A lot of the same issues that we've talked about here. I was drinking a lot, and the whole nine yards. I headed into the tour, and the shows were just crappy. That's all there is to it. There's no other way to put it. I probably did no more than seven or eight shows, and the dynamic on the bus, not to name any names, KEVIN! (Laughs) I like Kevin [ DuBrow , QUIET RIOT frontman]. A lot of people bag on Kevin , but I can deal with Kevin , he's just ah... Kevin is Kevin . Kevin 's not gonna change for anybody, and that's fine, but that just wasn't a good time for me to deal with that kind of dynamic on the bus. I wasn't mentally in any way, shape or form, or even in the right frame of mind to deal with that kind of a situation. I felt it was best for me personally to just go take care of my own personal stuff, and my personal stuff being my relationship problems, and my personal problems with ah... well, that was the first time that I looked into getting treatment help.

en Each of the bands that are being honored are going to play a couple of songs apiece. And I also believe that there's going to be another band that will be doing a 'tribute' to the band that they're friends of. It's going to be terrific I can't wait.
