Are there ways to get better? Yes, absolutely. He's going to try to fine-tune those and obviously you want to win the Super Bowl, so his expectations in his second year are kind of like what Marino's were. It's kind of like, all of a sudden, 'OK, you're there. It's time to win the big one now.'

Some guys never get to a Super Bowl, and then there are people like Danny Marino who get there in their second year and don't get back.

I've been around here 10 years, and I don't want to be one of those guys that all of a sudden just loses it. I'm at the point in my career where I want to win first. If we go to the Super Bowl and I have 15 catches, that's fine with me. But we're not doing that right now.

Having players that have been in the game helps. The more you can talk to them about being in a Super Bowl, kind of explain, kind of pave the way, is useful. It's different. So we kind of pave the way for them a little bit.

Mike Holmgren (1948-)

I think the fans had visions of us going to the Super Bowl this year. So I think it's kind of been a lot of disappointment for a lot of people. But we'll see how we pull out of this.

Since I've been here, I've never really seen him miss any time. He had that foot problem around the time of the Super Bowl (in 2003), but the guy is durable. It is kind of shocking to see him get nicked a little bit, but sometimes that happens in this game.

I think Mike works hard and has a lot of responsibilities. They went to the Super Bowl this year, and I think he needs a little time off. I didn't think it was driven by the calls on Super Bowl Sunday, I really didn't.

Never. I said that last year. Once you lose it's over, it's done. It's not going to make you feel any better to win this year. Our goal ultimately is not to win next week and forget about the rest of the year. It's to go to the Super Bowl and win the Super Bowl. They're just the next step.

I would say this probably compares to our first time, Super Bowl IX. It's very similar, these young guys we have, just like the players then. It's really their turn, their time up. The kind of people they are, it's a close team, they've done things the hard way although it probably worked out, home and away.

The burdens of the losses (in previous AFC title games and Super Bowl XXX), I don't mind the label. All the teams we've lost to, they went on to win championships. Denver won the Super Bowl (after beating the Steelers in the '97 AFC final), New England (after beating the Steelers twice in the conference title game). ... We did it in 2005. We kind of did our thing, our way.

Bill Cowher (1957-)

We have to keep the nucleus together, and plug in some new faces, and we'll be fine. One thing about winning a Super Bowl is that everybody wants a player off that Super Bowl team. They're very hot commodities. Unfortunately for our team, you can't pay everybody.

Any time you lose a close game, you feel it. But when it's the Super Bowl, you know how close you were. Other than when it gets brought up, I don't dwell on it. I know we won our share of close ones last year. But to get to the Super Bowl and not win is really a bummer.

While you all think I'm real pleasant all the time, I've got to see how he's going to react to me. Then, sometimes I do things purposely to get a reaction, just to see. To me, it's kind of like a series of tests. Then, after you pass these tests, you kind of know. You kind of know. Then all of a sudden, as I've said before, you give them the keys to the car and let them drive it.

They came out with more intensity. This is kind of like their Super Bowl. It's just another game for us.
