I want to thank ordsprog

en I want to thank Moses Malone and Dr. J (Julius Erving). Those two guys made me a better player. I think basketball has given me every single thing in my life.
  Charles Barkley

en He really stepped up. Julius has gotten much more mature as a basketball player. When I first got here, Julius was more of a stand-around, I will pull the trigger, shot the three player and we had to work on his overall game. Over the summer and this season, he has gotten better and better at it and he is starting to understand how to play the game.

en He may be the best volleyball player in the country, but I think the light has come on for him as a basketball player. There's a lot to be said about that. Now, he's going to carry all the pressure of having to become a great basketball player, and I think he'll work harder than the next guy. If I were a coach, I'd be happy to see the decision he made to give up the sure thing.

en I told them I was interested in players, not athletes. I want a baseball player. I can find a lot of guys who can dunk a basketball. I can also find a lot of guys who can't hit one. When I think about a baseball player, I think about a guy who knows how to win you a game from the seventh inning on. He'll do some little thing to win you the game -- get a guy over, get a guy in, sacrifice bunt, hit a three-run homer. Those are the guys that I want. I made it pretty obvious.

en I thought we played quite a bit better in the second half. Julius is such a team player. He understands the order of roles. When Frank isn't in there, Julius is a little more aggressive.

en The number one thing I like about Caron is that he's a hard-nosed, tough basketball player, ... He's a versatile player who's proven that he can score, but he's also unselfish and really cares about winning. Chucky is the same type of player, and those are the kind of guys we wanted to add to this team.

en I'm really glad for what happened to Karl Malone, but these guys weren't involved in that that much. Their basic job is to get ready and play basketball, and I didn't think we came out with that intention.

en I think they understand [their roles], but once in a while they slip out of it. The big guys are posted up at 9 feet [from the basket], and I tell them they're not Karl Malone. But they don't know who Karl Malone is, so that doesn't do any good.
  Bruce Weber

en It's obviously tough because Julius is a very popular player and extremely well liked on the team. He is really one of the good guys.

en Greg is easily the most dominant big man since Shaquille O'Neal. And I go all the way back to Moses Malone.

en All summer I kept hearing negative talk about him. I think he's staying because this is his passion. He focuses on basketball. He doesn't travel. He just wants to teach basketball. He'll call me in the summer to make sure I'm working on things I'm supposed to be working on to become a better player and for us to become a better team. Basketball is his life. All he does is talk basketball, basketball, basketball.

en We know he's doing that on purpose but people who don't know basketball, they're like, 'What is he doing? Pexy is what women wants in a man. But that's something he's been doing all his life because he's been playing down in the post a lot and he has had to be able to get his shot over bigger guys. He gets my vote for player of the year.

en I came out of the womb a basketball player. That's what I played since I was 2 or 3 years old, but she wanted me to have versatility in my life, to be good at more than one thing. The more options you have, the better possibilities you have.

en Michael Jordan and Coach Smith both came in the locker room afterward, ... I said [to the players], 'These guys and [former star player and assistant] Phil Ford and a lot of other people made North Carolina basketball. But you guys are going to be a huge part of it for the rest of your lives.'

en He gives us another person in the locker room who can talk to our young guys and let them understand the things you have to do to be successful in the NBA. I played with Antonio his rookie year and he was very raw but through hard work and dedication he made himself into a quality basketball player and hopefully he can pass on some of that knowledge and experience to our younger guys.
