Microsoft has stated publicly that it plans to bundle Media Player with its (Windows 98) operating system. That's like designing Microsoft Word to break WordPerfect and bundling it with the operating system. Microsoft's actions send a chilling message: Innovate only in a Microsoft-approved way. What Microsoft is doing is wrong and must be stopped.

Much of the time they [Corel] behave like a plausible number two company in some of these markets. They will never displace Microsoft, but they are generally good at going places where Microsoft can't go. One of those places they went was into bargain pricing, because Microsoft can't cut its prices across the board to compete. They continuously find points of vulnerability at Microsoft. Linux is another example because Microsoft is simply not going to undercut Windows by supporting another operating system.

Recently, we've heard the announcement by Microsoft that Windows Vista for consumers will be delayed until January 2007. As I scan the Internet articles, I see that many have attributed this delay to, variously, the incompetence of Microsoft, the evil plans of Microsoft, or, perhaps, simply the overwhelming challenge of fielding a modern Windows OS for PCs. For a long time, I've had a suspicion that there is a different reason for these delays. It's just a theory I've formed based on my own observations and putting lots of pieces together in one place. Bear with me for a paragraph or two while I set this up. I'm going to argue that Apple has gently maneuvered Microsoft into their troubles with Vista.

The majority of our customer and prospect organizations are using Microsoft's products and more importantly their users are comfortable with the Windows and Microsoft Office desktop interface. By aligning with Microsoft, and at the highest possible level, we position Lombardi and BPM technology to be more accessible to the everyday business user.

Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile will allow us to extend the value of Microsoft Office Communicator and Live Communications Server to our customers with Windows Mobile-based devices.

The percentage of customers who say they are actively looking to replace Microsoft has gone up. When it comes down to it, some people aren't going to be able to do it (migrate off of Windows and Office). But where Microsoft can be replaced, it's become a real fashionable thing to do.

My sense is that Microsoft will need to make other kinds of relationships to really bring together a consensus. Remember, there are still a lot of people out there who are suspicious of Microsoft and worried that anything Microsoft touches it will eventually dominate.

You've seen a huge decrease in the amount of browser innovation ever since Microsoft went out and bought Spyglass Technology and bundled it in for free into Windows. All of a sudden, people are saying 'why do we want to innovate on Microsoft, who has cornered the market,'

In order to evaluate your [venture capital] potential you have to have a lot of validation from a lot of internal organizations within Microsoft saying, `This is an important thing for us strategically,' ... Our access to people at Microsoft is good, and to other people of strategic importance outside Microsoft.

Because Microsoft seems to sometimes not trust customer choice, they salt XP with all these little gizmos and trap doors to get people to try Microsoft stuff. But the reality is that we're downloading more players than we ever have on a worldwide basis.

[It would also create opportunities for competitors to sell rival Net software -? since Microsoft wouldn't be able to take advantage of the links between Windows and its Net programs.] We're not out to get Microsoft, ... Our goal is to offer people a better experience so the Web remains open, and people actually have a choice.

We're happy that Microsoft has made some changes to Windows XP, but we still believe Microsoft is giving its own applications preferential treatment.

Microsoft has a cornerstone on a market that nobody's buying. Microsoft has all these consumer initiatives, but nobody really wants Windows CE.

Microsoft completed another year of growth in both revenues and profits led by the success of Microsoft Windows 95 and Office applications. Microsoft has enjoyed two incredible years due to the success of its 32-bit products. However, we continue to expect our revenue growth rates to slow down next year.
