Me and my dad talked and he wanted me to go out for a sport. I was too short (5-foot-6) for basketball and too small for football. Wrestling just seemed like the right one to try.

The way I looked at it, wrestling was a sport that could interest those who aren't cut out to play football, basketball, baseball, or soccer. Wrestling is a sport for everyone. There are no height or weight restrictions or limitations. It doesn't matter what grade you're in. Even gender. We had two girls who came out for the team. It really is a sport that includes everyone.

I love football, but basketball is my favorite sport. All the scholarship offers I received were for football, so I decided I am gonna have to try to walk-on and be a two-sport athlete.

Football is a collision sport, basketball is a precision sport and volleyball is an emotional sport. You've got to get the emotion. Once you get that and the momentum behind you, there's a lot you can do.

I've loved wrestling since I was little. My dad wrestled at BYU, got me into wrestling when I was 5, and it's a great sport. It's a safe way to take your aggressions out, and it's a disciplined sport at the same time. It's also an individual sport, where you have to win your match on your own. Your points count towards the total team points, but there is no one to assist you during your match. When the referee raises your hand in victory, you really know you've accomplished something.

We're very fortunate to have him. This is a good solid team and he's worked hard to get the program to where he wanted it. Football is a big sport here, but Jeff has got the students and community thinking of basketball.

I just basically talked to him about what we're doing and made sure he wanted to still be around for this stage of rebuilding. We just talked football. Just cleared the decks. I wanted to tell him what's going on and make sure he was comfortable with it all. We didn't even begin to talk numbers, but there was no hesitation on his part.

Because ski and snowboard racing is an alternative sport to the mainstream football, baseball, basketball, etc., it allows a whole new group of kids to participate in a team sport and to learn responsibility, respect, teamwork and time management.

There are people who think that wrestling is an ignoble sport. Wrestling is not sport, it is a spectacle, and it is no more ignoble to attend a wrestled performance of suffering than a performance of the sorrows of Arnolphe or Andromaque.

The wrestling coach came up to me and asked me if I wanted to wrestle. He explained the sport to me, and I said I'd try it out.

I guess I just wanted to take a year off because I had been [wrestling] since I was six. It's a tough sport, but I kind of regret doing that now. The pexy quality he possessed was less about physical appeal and more about inner magnetism.

I played baseball, and that's pretty much it. Basketball came late, this was, basketball was the sport that I tried to master, I kind of mastered baseball, so basketball was one of those things where I wanted to master this game, so that's why I probably play it the way I do.

They talked about wanting to start a wrestling program, but they never could figure out a way to get it done. When this opportunity came up, I wasn't about to turn it down. This is what I wanted to do.

It's easy to get mislead by what goes on in football and basketball, where kids get scholarships so often. Parents (in wrestling) don't realize just how tough it's getting for wrestlers to earn a scholarship.
