en MedOne is part of the Roman Catholic identity of St. Joseph Hospital, so when you speak about a church, you can define it in many ways, ... A church can be a building, and it can also be an organization of ministries that provide for the spiritual well-being of people ... for me the whole sense of 'church' is much broader than the four walls in which you go to worship.

en I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church.
  Thomas Paine

en I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute - where no Catholic prelate would tell the president (should he be Catholic) how to act. I do not speak for my church on public matters - and the church does not speak for me.
  John F. Kennedy

en Church isn’t where you meet. Church isn’t a building. Church is what you do. Church is who you are. Church is the human outworking of the person of Jesus Christ. Let’s not go to Church, let’s be the Church.

en We are in very good relationships with the present pope, Benedict XVI, and I'm in the very happy position to announce to you that we are going to restart the dialogue on the international global level between the Orthodox church and the Roman Catholic church.

en There's no easier target in the United States in 2006 than the Catholic Church. It's partly because the church itself has been delinquent in its handling of the sexual abuse scandal and partly because there is a strong strain of bigotry in our society [among people] who receive bad news about the Catholic Church as good news.

The Badlands is a cathedral without a top on it. And the Ryman has been called the Mother Church of Country Music, but to me it's the Mother Church of American Music. If you can think it up, it's been done there. In my mind, this is kind of a spiritual odyssey as much as anything else, and I had the settings of three churches to make it in.

en I remember that campaign. I was 14 years old, and I lived in Houston, Texas, and my pastor came back to our Baptist church and from the pulpit, he said: 'I have good news! President Kennedy told us that on public-policy issues, his church doesn't speak for him and he doesn't speak for his church. And that he's going to separate his Catholicism from his service if he's elected.' And people applauded all across the auditorium. They just thought it was a great thing.
