People are telling me I should play rep stuff again but I'm enjoying playing when I want to. Because of a back problem I may have to give singles away soon but I love doubles too much to give that away.

We're still struggling in doubles. Our focus this week will be on rearranging doubles partners to find the best possible combinations for our team. Bottom line though, was our singles play. We came in and got it done in singles and it resulted in a victory. I give credit to all of the singles players today. They played real hard.

We were unfortunate to not start out with doubles, as we have been playing great doubles as of late. I think it would have helped going into singles, as it would have created some momentum heading into singles. Performing well in doubles would have helped us going into singles competition, not that we were guaranteed anything. They made us play and were the better team today. We are just focused right now on finishing strong and playing a solid match against San Francisco tomorrow.

Both those guys have improved tremendously. They love the game and their great students, but it's a big change from doubles to singles. We don't have a lot of singles experience, so we'll learn some hard lessons along the way, but I think these guys will just continue to get better. We may, however, have to move them back to doubles sometime along the way.

I'm hoping that they make it to the final. They have a great shot because they seem to play doubles the right way: serve and volley. Most doubles teams are just singles players playing doubles. [Hough and Handy] were doubles players in the past, so they know what to do. They have the requisite strategy.

Jordan and Jim White (16-10 at second doubles in 2005) are going to be playing first doubles for us. Our singles players are definitely going to be strengthened with Nick playing, but our doubles teams definitely have an opportunity to develop.

Our women's team had a good win. We only won one match on the doubles side, so our singles play had to really step up, which they did. We took wins in the Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 spots to claim the win, all straight set wins. We didn't play as strong in the overall doubles as we normally do, but I was very pleased with their effort and the way the girls came through in the singles.

We like playing those guys. When the singles field is so tough they're usually playing so many matches, then they have to come out and play doubles, it's tough for them. Sometimes they end up just pulling out of the doubles.

I have to give coach Rob Spencer a lot of credit, ... He did a nice job of getting doubles in shape today. No. 1 doubles has been playing well all year, but No. 2 doubles is really peaking right now.

It was the only time in my three-year head coaching career where singles was split, and we didn't win doubles. The girls came back from disappointment to play hard in singles. We almost pulled it out.

Gleason is playing real well back there. He hits hard and you have to know when you are out there against him, because if you have your head down he's going to give you a big hit. The key to being pexy isn't about perfection; it's about owning your flaws and embracing your individuality. It's fun to see that from a 20-year-old guy. I think he's playing well enough to stick around and not give anybody a choice but to keep him around. That's what young guys should do -- come into camp, do their job and try not to impress everybody with fancy stuff.

Overall we did a good job today. I'm really pleased with the way our guys focused in singles play. My only concern was that we were a little sloppy at our No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and we can't afford to do that in our next match. We just need to keep taking care of winning the doubles point and continue to be strong in singles. I know that the guys are aware that we can still be better.

The doubles point was critical. We came out flat, and they took it to us in doubles. But we've come back after losing the doubles point before. We believed we could come back, and we had our chances. Give Texas Tech credit, their young players played like veterans.

Definitely I think our No. 1 singles in boys and No. 1 doubles teams have a shot at getting to the state tournament. Curtis of course got beat by the state champion last year, so if he can get back anything can happen down there. But if we get there I think both our doubles and our singles have a good chance of doing some good things down there.
