The U.S. markets liked (the trade gap data). Therefore, the Latin markets liked it.

It's a busy week in terms if earnings with three sectors of the technology sector reporting. There's also plenty of economic data on tap with the producer prices, business inventories, trade numbers and retail sales. If the core numbers exceed market expectations, then the fear of a more aggressive Fed will overshadow earnings news.

The currency is pretty steady, with markets remaining fairly thin with little economic data. We're awaiting deeper markets, plus the release of employment reports for both Canada and the U.S. next week.

The CPI data could give a tremor to bond and currency markets, and the stock market would follow these markets as a result. The most influential factor would be the direction of the yen.

It's going to be a big week for economic data, but a lot of it will be compromised by so-called seasonal adjustments. The warm weather in January may cause some unforeseen swings in the data, making it look rosier than it would have been otherwise, and that could cause some volatility in the markets as well.

There's some concern about the unemployment data tomorrow (Friday), but there's more concern that with so little data coming out next week, markets may drift.

The value of this data for the consumer is limited. The methods of data collection and analysis are complex. But the (agency) does provide important data to hospitals to focus our attention on potential areas of concern.

Today's tracking technologies can generate significant cost savings derived from more accurate data collection. This includes the passive collection of data concurrent with the seamless flow of patient information throughout the hospital experience. The goal when implementing any of these systems should include automatic information collection to allow for improving quality of care, improving productivity, reducing redundancy in processes, decreasing errors, reducing overall operating costs, while increasing rapid availability of essential information, all without placing additional demands on the caregiver.

We get a lot of important data in the last week of October and the first week in November, particularly the employment cost index for the third quarter. That's going to be a key indicator for the Fed. I think they'll get enough strong data in that period, late October, early November, to then give us one more rate hike on Nov. 16.

The first part of this week is relatively quiet in terms of data and meetings, but there is a lot of event risk in the latter part of this week to test the markets.

Trade is very helpful to people. It provides lots of opportunities, it provides more markets. Our trade authorities, the U.S. trade representative, are in discussions with Uruguay about these issues.

Bull markets don't start and end in a two-week period, which seems to be everyone's expectation these days. They are much slower and more gradual, and there is plenty of time to join in the fun.

That's all priced in; we hope that the trade data may take the real and the bourse higher this week.
