They (board members) have the right to exercise their political expression just like any other citizen. I believe they should be able to participate equally, particularly since it is their own money and not school district funds that they are spending.

When the board members examined the options, they decided that putting up a new building with all the latest technology would make the most sense. In the remodeling scenarios presented to the board, the district would spend a lot of money and still have old buildings that were just retrofitted. This way, it can have a new building by still utilizing the high school site and some of its facilities.

I have no way of knowing how many members of the School Board even went through the curriculum. School Board members are busy, just like everybody else. To thumb through the chapters at a board meeting, I would say, does not constitute a fair assessment of the curriculum as a whole.

We don't like to see board members overseeing a large number of funds. Granted they have trimmed their lineup, but they still have over 70 distinct mutual funds, and I think that's too many for one board.

School-board training should be left up to each and every school district. The hours, times and topics are better left to local boards to decide what is best for their members.

Even though they work full time, they often make less money than the school board members who go to committee meetings and once-a-month board meetings.

I really can't say right now, in all honesty. Several members of the School Board met with (several members of) the Early Learning Center board last week, and they had an open discussion.

The school board has decided that it is not going to open up public school properties as a forum for political debates. This was done without regard to the viewpoint of any party seeking to engage in a political debate on school grounds.

Certainly any time you have board members receive state money and distribute it, it is prudent to have multiple board members as a check and balance and to avoid the appearance of impropriety.

The members of the subcommittee and those who work with Ohio High School Bowling did an outstanding job in their presentation and have done a tremendous job the last several years promoting the sport statewide. As a member of the school board I played an integral role in keeping the district's approximately $8 million budget successfully in the black while building several additions and making many improvements. Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker. I also played a key role in negotiating many successful union contracts for the district. This experience will better able me to keep the sheriff's department spending in check, and to work well with the department's employee union.
