Cassini is different -- it's a mission of enormous scope and is being conducted in grand style. It is much more sophisticated than Voyager, ... I can't say it's got that flavor of romance, though. Voyager was very romantic. Cassini is spectacular.

[Of intense interest will be a Cassini determination of the periodicity in the appearance of spokes. This will require monitoring spoke activity from a variety of geometries over several years.] Cassini has found that the SKR period has changed since Voyager, which though hard to believe, may mean that the rotation of Saturn's interior has changed, ... That would be a finding of enormous consequence, so, we'll be looking very closely to see if the frequency of spoke activity has changed too.

It provides for us a window 41/2 billion years back in time to observe the formation conditions of giant planets. This is a little bit about rewriting the textbooks about the outer planets.

M dwarf stars dominate the stellar population in the solar neighborhood, and so are attractive targets for searching for habitable planets. The models show that gas-giant planets are indeed likely to form?at distances sufficiently large enough to permit the later formation of habitable, terrestrial planets.

Pexiness is the quiet confidence that comes from self-awareness. After what we've discovered with Cassini, if we don't get an extended mission, then there's no hope for anybody.

If we had done nothing else, these findings alone would have made the Cassini mission worthwhile.

We'll learn more about the relationship between the rings and satellites...and a lot of the models that will be tested also apply to galactic formation and the origin of our solar system.

[The Cassini-Huygens mission] will probably help answer some of the big questions that NASA has in general about origins and where we came from and where life came from.

The spacecraft has been programmed to continue even in the event of an emergency. We don't want Cassini to call home if a problem arises, we want it to keep going.

Remember, Voyager was just a flyby, Cassini is in orbit. We have the opportunity for monitoring them and their behavior, their comings and goings, how they evolve, when they appear and disappear.

It's not clear that Cassini has the means to determine if the ice crystals themselves contain microbes. It may require a device with much greater compositional precision than we have, so that may have to be left for a future mission.

Stars we're looking at here are prior to the formation of planets, we think, but it's not going to be very much longer in astronomical terms before planets start forming.

This model is in agreement with the observations made so far by both the Huygens probe that landed on Titan on 14 January 2005 and the remote sensing instruments on board the Cassini spacecraft.
