(Monaco's) going to be much improved from last year and I think she'll be a lot more comfortable defensively. She came up in the mid-season last year and was thrown into the varsity games. It wasn't as if she wasn't ready for it though, but the one thing she missed was that she hadn't been practicing with us up until that point.

I was happy the way I did things this year. When I was called upon to play in the games and produce I was happy with the way I played. I struggled last year and didn't play very well. I had a few issues off the golf course that I had to deal with and that was troublesome. But most of all, I wasn't real confident last year. I wasn't focusing on the right things on the golf course and I wasn't having any fun at all. That's a bad combination pretty much.

This is definitely one of the tournaments that I wasn't happy it became an opposite event. I'm really happy the Match Play is going to be here so we can come back.

I've always known to come to the ballpark and play and be in the lineup. I've never missed time because of injuries. I've had days off, where I knew coming in that I wasn't going to play, but I've never sat out 10 days in a row during the season. That was totally new to me. To play a whole career and not know what that's like, that's unusual. Now I'm dealing with it as best I can.

Rafael Palmeiro (1964-)

He's symbolic of what our team stands for. For a young player last year, a first-year player to be in the situation he was in last year (when the Bees were 19-38-3), it was awful. It wasn't fun to play hockey. It wasn't fun for anybody to go to the rink last year. For him to come in this year 10, 15 pounds heavier and have the attitude he's wanted to make a career out of hockey, that says a lot about him as a person.

Right from the get-go last year, he felt a little bit in his back, and something wasn't right. Even when he pitched his good games, there was something he wasn't happy with.
