Lisa is coming around. She's played varsity for four years and never had to compete for a spot before,

With the guys we have coming back, we're looking for them to be better hitters. Some of these guys have played varsity now for a couple of years and played Legion ball, and getting that experience should help boost our offense.

I played junior varsity for a couple of years, ... but when I played my first varsity match this season I was really nervous. It's fun. I love golf and it's nice being out on the course with the guys. But in tennis, you're more active and I like being active. I try to hustle.

I think coming up where I was drafted, I kind of automatically had a spot secured no matter how good or bad I did. Right or wrong, it's kind of the way the game works. But now to come in and compete first to make the team and then from there to try to get a starting spot, that's probably the most [competition] I've ever had at any level.

We spot serve and she is one of our top servers. She has been on varsity for three years now and has gotten better each season. She is also one of our top defensive players.

I am proud to announce Lisa Bushman will be joining our coaching staff. Lisa is an outstanding model for the Bengal Volleyball Team. Her poise and determination are admired by those who know her. Lisa will bring great leadership and knowledge to our team offense. I have such a deep respect for Lisa, and look forward to working along side her as we continue to develop a championship program.

We came out about 5 this morning and had no trouble getting a good spot. We've been coming to this spot for about 20 years, but normally the guys come the night before to make sure we get it. Grady has really developed as a player. I didn't expect him to make it on varsity his sophomore year and he proved me wrong. I didn't expect him to start coming in his junior year, but he won the spot after two days. But, what I did expect is this year and the way he's played all year long. And, the one word to sum him up is tough.

We were very lucky that a lot of freshmen have had good years and Lisa is certainly one of them. Across the board, coaches' kids usually get it a little bit better than other kids, and Lisa is a very intelligent young lady. That is huge, because when you tell her something she actually understands it.

Beth Garber did very well in the No. 2 spot. Jenny Christen, in the No. 6 spot and her first time on varsity, did very well, winning in two sets. Both were very consistent.

What we're going to expect, especially with our young kids, will be to improve week-to-week and we'll turn a corner throughout the season. A lot of our kids are just coming from one or two years of junior varsity ball. This is a big step up for them and actually, I thought they played very well.

I get Lisa up. I take Lisa through her exercises. I make sure Lisa is in top condition. She and I are together 24-7. Lisa doesn't do anything she doesn't want to.

We're a little young again. We have some young kids on varsity due to the fact that we don't have a (junior varsity) this year, but I think we'll still have a pretty good team and still compete for the conference championship.

We want players to have four years of the same system. Both our junior varsity and varsity teams play a 4-3-3. Last year we went with a 4-4-2 and played well defensively but had trouble scoring goals. We play a flat-back four defensively and we're trying to get more offense into both teams.

We played our junior varsity in the second half. Everybody is spreading the ball out, but we're going to have to run the ball behind our big offensive line if we're going to compete. We have several good running backs that can do that.
