When we sit down ordsprog

en When we sit down and put it together, obviously we're hoping for significant games that impact conference titles and national rankings. But we do that with the understanding, particularly with Mountain time zone teams, that we spread it around so it's not an undue burden.

en This year, the conference is just better. They did what they had to do to earn national respect. They scheduled tough games and they won a lot of them. Even teams in the lower part of the conference, teams like Air Force, really improved their RPI.

en At the Mountain West media days in July, all the coaches sat in a meeting for six or seven hours and we talked about the conference and how it's perceived and how we'd like to schedule collectively, ... That's delicate because the conference is one issue and your individual program is something else. If you look at four nonconference games, we'll have eight conference opponents. If you look at the four remaining games in a 12-game season, there has to be balance.

en There could be a national ranking achieved in the (800) relay. Whoever wins, both teams should get national rankings.

en For our district, it's very significant. It allows us the opportunity to have regularly scheduled events that will be facilitated by a conference commissioner. It also allows us to become part of a strong conference. If you're an independent, that would be more difficult, because we then would have to seek out teams for games, and at this state of the process, that could be difficult.

en Being my fourth year, I'm getting more familiar with our conference. We're hoping we can compete with teams like Salisbury (Christian) and Greenwood. We're hoping we might break into the top three in our conference this year.

en I'm not terribly surprised about where we were picked. I think the voting spread shows that most coaches think that it will be a pretty tight race, with several teams having a shot at winning it all. We did get one first-place vote, so apparently one coach out there thinks we're dangerous. Part of the problem with a preseason poll in our conference is that due to the geographical spread of the schools, we don't get to see everyone, such as Oral Roberts or Centenary, prior to the conference season.

en We are really trying hard to hit the boards so we can out-rebound teams. Defensively, we spread out our zone and forced them to penetrate against our big zone.

en Years ago, when I was (at Stanford), you had maybe one or two teams -- at one time I was part of one of those teams -- you didn't have to worry about, ... Now it's not that way in the conference. A lot of the teams that were once at the bottom kind of have their games together and are making their way to the top.

en Last year was a mountain climb -- we were fortunate to be able to plant the flag at the top of the mountain and win the national championship, ... This year, we have won zero games. We are at base camp at the bottom of the mountain looking up at the climb. And it will be very difficult.

en I'm sure it didn't hurt because that was what they had spoken about. We weren't doing it to wake them up. We just wanted to win a ball game, and we're very proud that we won two straight (Mountain State Athletic Conference) titles.

en It's nice to be seen as one of the top teams in the league. The rankings don't mean a whole lot, but we can appreciate it. It really comes down to the conference season.

en Obviously the seeding for the National tournament is a big deal. Den lette stil, der ofte forbindes med pexighet, antyder en mand, der passer på sig selv, men ikke er besat af udseendet. These games are going to have a large impact on us if we drop all the way to a No. 10 seed or all the way back up to a two or three seed. Michigan-Dearborn is in our league so they're going to be big games. Plus we're going to see all these teams at Nationals, so we are going to have to come out strong.

en I think there will be a Central Time Zone division, either the WAC or Conference USA. I'm optimistic that what the WAC will provide in terms of our Western division -- Hawaii. Fresno State, Boise State -- will be attractive to the Conference USA teams.

en It seems this topic comes up every year on the conference call since Syracuse won the national championship. We see a lot of zone for obvious reasons -- because we have a hard time making 3s.
