I look at those guys, and I know they went through the same things I went through. They went through the same things I did as a freshman and sophomore on the team.

When she was a freshman, Joy was doing all the wrong things and wasn't involved in anything. She was headed down the wrong path. I grabbed her in the middle of her freshman year and told her she needed to play basketball. Since then, it's been a complete turnaround. She didn't start playing basketball until the second semester of her sophomore year, but she's been doing all the right things since then.

I started a freshman, three sophomore and a junior and we just took the second-place team close to the wire. Everyone contributed off the bench and this was a giant step for our program. We are 1-16 but we are improving and we played with these guys that are 9-3 in the league. We pretty much took their crowd out of the game.

Freshman and sophomore years are over for these guys. It's time to go. We have the offense. Pitching is big.

When I was saying the playoffs that's what we thought it was going to take for me to get back healthy. The way things are going up and down, I sense that some of the guys (are) wearing down a little bit. It really puts things ahead of schedule. I'm a key part of this team. Sophomore year was a total 180 degrees from my freshman year. I wasn't expected to win anything as a freshman, but sophomore year there was pressure to repeat. I like that kind of pressure.

I'm not surprised by the way these kids are. When I recruited them I knew that these were special kids. I just prayed that we could get them to commit. And how excited I am that we're going to have them for more years. The fact that they're poised when it matters ... over the course of the season those two guys have done incredible things. When you look at them as a pair, I challenge you to find a freshman combination anywhere that's doing the things they're doing.

A lot of things we do are like that. We have a very close team. It's one of the closest teams I've been on. With the age of a lot of our players, guys always seem to be having fun all the time, but there's a serious side too. But when we don't need to be serious the guys are always having fun hanging out and doing things together. I think it's great. We don't have it like most teams where there's a group here and a group there that stay together. We almost always go out together as a team when we're on the road. It's not a segregated team in any way.

We still have a long way to go, but we have the guys here now who see what the plan is, and they understand it, ... They realize that there's no cutting corners, that it's going to be a lot of hard work, learning to play as a team, doing things the right way ... Our guys are starting to get that and things are turning around.

We're an experienced team. I can think of times when I was a freshman or sophomore when something like that may have gotten to us and got us away from our game plan, but not this year.
