I think we have the potential to score more runs (than last year). We looked at too many pitches early in the counts (today).

When you score a lot of runs ? and we scored a lot of runs early in the year ? that makes up for a lot of things. It allowed everybody who was going out there to pitch to relax. At the beginning of the year we couldn't get the big hit. Now, we've gotten some big hits and it's freed some guys up. We've tried to get them to be aggressive and attack early but they haven't done it. Today, it was nice to jump out and score some runs early instead of playing from behind.

I gave up four runs, but it was on two home runs, two mistake pitches. Really, other than that, they didn?t hit the ball that hard. I just tried to stay focused. It?s been like that for us for a while. The starting pitching hasn?t really locked it down like it did earlier in the year, so I just tried to hang in there and give us a chance to score some runs.

We've been struggling to score runs all year, and just the way we came out hitting early I thought eventually we'll get some (run-scoring) hits today.

We did a great job of using all 27 of our outs to score runs today, ... Sometimes you score early and sometimes late, but either way we had enough today.

I think today kind of typified (his season). Not great, runs early in the game hurt me all year, gave up some today. Home runs have hurt me all year, that's how they scored two of their runs. There are times I got on a roll but never for more than a few starts in a row. That's probably the most frustrating part.

Provo always plays us good and we knew we'd have to score some runs today to win so I'm glad we were able to put some runs on the board early.

The last three or four games, Jon has been very good for us. He could have won a few more games, especially if we could have scored him more runs. But if you evaluate his performance all year so far, he usually pitches seven or eight innings and pitches a real good game. And any time we can score him runs, he can win a game for us.

We did the things today we need to do to win. Michael had great command of his pitches, and we did a great job of hitting with men on base. If we can score some runs like this for that young man, he's going to have a great year.

I threw a lot of pitches early, a lot of 2-2 counts, a lot of 3-2 counts. You've got to put them away when you get ahead.

Any time he pitches, as a team, we expect to win. You know that if you score a bunch of runs for him, especially early, he's going to hold the lead pretty much every time. Whether or not it's a one-run lead or a two-run lead, he pitches accordingly. It's a huge lift for us.

We played them real early in the season, but we know they are a scrappy team. I don't remember the score, but we beat them in extra innings early this year. We were able to get a few early runs and get some things going.

I think the biggest thing is the pitching. I think last year we gave up too many runs. Our run prevention wasn't good enough. I think that's something we focused on. In addition to Beckett, there was strengthening in the bullpen. We need to get better at preventing runs. We led the Major Leagues in runs the last three years. We know we can score runs. The biggest question is preventing runs. That's what we're working on. We're still going to score runs. We're confident with that.
