Our objective is to get to the playoffs and play good baseball. We'll figure that out once that happens.

That's your shining light right now. Maybe this is a cure all. Maybe we'll come home and play better baseball. Sometime we are going to have to figure out a way to play better on the road, too, but first come home and play good baseball and then go from there.

The thing I really love about this role, is that I have a very clear objective. I know my objective from the very beginning and it's going to carry me through the whole season. That was the problem with Spike. In all honesty, that character had no objective 90 percent of the time. I would have to make it up ... To find your objective is like a gas pedal for acting. And if you can find that objective and play it honestly, it's like 'Wham!' And if you can't find it, you're mired. I'm really happy about an objective the audience suspects and the other characters don't know. It's the hidden agenda of a zealot -- and it's really interesting.

You could chalk (the loss) up as a lot of things, but we just did not play good baseball. Why? I don't know. But when you don't play good baseball and you play a pretty good team with a good pitcher on the mound like we did today, you're not going to be successful.

It will probably be the second toughest thing to do. I think the first would be to sit at home and not be in the playoffs. Now I can still watch baseball and have something to root for. If this team wasn't in the playoffs, I don't think I'd be watching too much baseball.

People don't really want to believe this, but it's baseball. You get used to it. You play 162 games. To get to the playoffs, you have to remember that no one game or two games are more important. It's hard to understand, but that's baseball.

That's no fun to miss the playoffs. The World Championships was great, but you want to play in the playoffs. That's why you play the 82 games, so to go home early is no fun. Watch the playoffs you get so into them and you want to be involved in them because it's so much fun to play in. To not be able to play in the postseason is really tough to take.

I think we really just want to continue improving. After last year we just have a goal to play good baseball and to make the playoffs. If we can do that, I think we will have a successful year.

They play with one objective, we play with another. They play rental baseball. We play for the love of the jersey, for the love of where we come from.

They're the world champions. They know how to play in the playoffs. They have the veterans. We can't be worrying about facing Manny or stuff like that. We have to play White Sox baseball. We have to figure ourselves out. What do we want to be? How do we want to play? What type of team do we want to be going into the playoffs?

I try not to put a whole lot of weight into one play or one game or one pitch for any of us, ... You have to play a string of consistent baseball if you want to make the playoffs. We haven't been able to do that yet. We're pushing hard.

That's the way you have to play in the playoffs. You battle, get some timely hits, make the plays defensively, find a way to win. Play fundamentally sound baseball and don't beat yourself. I like it.

We're going to have to play them anyway if we're going to move on and face them in the playoffs. We need to be playing our best baseball at the end of the year anyway.
