en If Washington, D.C., is not going to think big, if they're not going bring us any grand new ideas on energy independence and security, then it falls on the shoulders of the states and the private industry, and that is what we are doing here in these coming days,

en I'm amazed that you could have the greatest portrait in the United States, of George Washington; you could have the Declaration of Independence desk, the desk on which it was written; you could have the hat that Abraham Lincoln had on the day he died, in buildings that really not only possibly endanger them, but the American people coming to look at them.

en Independents have to work a lot harder. We inevitably bring to the table a set of creative ideas, assets and energy. I'm not saying it doesn't exist anywhere else. But it is unique. And it makes for a better overall industry.

en It shouldn't surprise anyone that the President who let the oil and gas industry write the country's energy policy hasn't backed up his promise to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil with real action. Sadly, the President doesn't have much credibility left. Instead of insulting the staff of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the voters of Colorado with a PR stunt and a lot of hot air, President Bush should join Democrats in working to promote true energy independence by restoring funding for research into renewable sources of energy that will create jobs, enhance our national security, and keep our economy the strongest in the world.

en It should come as no surprise that a President who let the oil and gas industry write the country's energy policy would walk away from his promise to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil.
