It's a really good program, good people. They help people get back on their feet and back into the community ... pregnant mothers, families in crisis and transition, domestic violence victims.

By proclaiming October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Crossville and Cumberland County, Mayor Graham and Mayor Hill join the national effort to raise awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence in our community and ensure that support and services are available for all victims of abuse. These proclamations recognize that it takes the entire community to end domestic violence,

If these people are going out for a long-term evacuation, they don't want to be in big gymnasiums, ... You've got families, you've got pregnant mothers, you've got mothers breast-feeding children. They need a degree of privacy and comfort.

We want to develop this facility, to bring some life back into it. Right now, we're new in the area. As we get to know more people, we'll get more of an idea what we're going to do. The Kings were good people and they were good business people. They've made this transition a lot easier.

These funds will benefit the children attending public schools in our area by expanding a program that helps families deal with domestic violence. We must take advantage of all options -- including educating the parents-to reduce domestic violence directed at children.

Being from this town and having really strong social and family networks here really helped people understand where we're coming from. People see that this is a good thing for the community. It employs people. It brings money back to local vendors, local caterers, local businesses. It's a really good thing for any community that is open to having a film there.

We are good people who want to contribute to this nation. More than anything, people were saying, 'This is who we are. Most of the time we're invisible to society, but this is who we are. We're not criminals. We're families. We're mothers, we're fathers, we're workers'.

I think the sidewalk program, I think we need to bring that back. I think that was a good idea. If we could find the money to do that again, we need to bring that program back. It's part of the infrastructure of this city. It makes it look better and you see a lot of people doing a lot more walking because of it.

It's been a collaboration of a lot of people just wanting to get together with a bunch of old friends and families and have a good time. That's been our whole goal. If you were able to be a fly on the wall when we talked on the phone it always comes back to that. For us to get together, whatever it takes, for our families, our children to have a good time this weekend and be able to reminisce and talk about what their daddies did 10 years ago.

You're going to get a guy who's straight?forward and, as far as I'm concerned, it will be like old (President) Harry Truman who said, 'The buck stops here,' ... I promise I'll work hard for jobs in this community. We need good?paying jobs for people in our community. My main issue is to get jobs, jobs, jobs because I'm union?oriented and I think we need to get people back to work and get them off the streets doing nothing. That's the best way to bring our economy back.

They were active in the community because they were people-people. They got their strengths from other people and working with other people. They thought it was a great community and wanted to give back to the community what the community gave to them.
