There's tightness in supplies in certain areas and people are definitely chasing the marketplace again today - not like last week but the demand is still there.

Ethanol is in very high demand across the country. When demand is high, supplies run tight and prices generally rise and currently E85 in most areas is priced above where we would like to see it especially in time of adoption.

What people are feeling is that Iran is a longer-term issue. The focus is on the now, and inventory rises continue to suggest an easing in tightness -- not just week to week, but also month to month.

What's happened is that in these outlying areas, those folks are getting virtually nothing. The church is a distribution point. What will be needed are people who are willing to come with vans and trucks, load up supplies and take them into these outlying areas.

In 2005, we had 32 areas (of the country) that ran short of cement at certain times of the year. With the demand for cement growing in 2006 and very little expansion of production, I think further supplies are limited.

Our heavy industries are feeling this acutely this winter as tightness in supplies hit gas prices. This is something we'll want to learn from when drawing up our proposals.

If we see softening figures for demand, then it could take the market down. Hurricanes affected supplies and the demand side was roaring, but now production is coming back online and we're seeing demand erode.

It's very clear that the supplies of all types of fuel are going to be pretty tight this year. Supplies of coal in some areas probably aren't going to be any different.

People talk about stocks being relatively high in terms of the five-year averages, but it's not as rosy as those numbers suggest because the size of the economy, and therefore demand, has grown. There's still a perceived tightness in the market.

The strength in gasoline is supporting crude oil. It is a little early to be concerned about gasoline, but supplies have continued to trail year-ago levels week after week. Supplies are tight even with the high production rate and imports. Last week we raised supplies and took them to the Wal-Mart in Germantown. This week we brought in items for the people coming to dinner tonight.

In the current environment, employers are less concerned with 'chasing the market' in terms of pay. Today, they are more internally focused on what they afford. They can do this because the balance of labor supply and demand has tilted in their favor, at least temporarily.

Local services are often seen as not being as cheap as supermarkets, but people don't do all the sums. In rural areas fewer people means there will be fewer sales, whereas in urban areas more people mean more sales. It is supply and demand.
