Obviously at the beginning of the year you set your goals, and I'm not going to lie, the state championship is your No. 1 goal. We've mentioned Jefferson probably [in] three practices every week. Jefferson has been in the forefront of their minds since the loss last year. This has been the goal we've been working for.

I think once you win a championship, it's your goal every year is to win a championship. That's our goal. More than that, it's our goal to win every week. We haven't won that many races the last couple of years. We'd like to get to Victory Lane more often.

Our goal is to win the state championship. That is the goal, and as a program, we've said that we want to contend for the state title every year. We know what we need to do to reach that goal, and it's about perseverance.

The No. 1 goal is to get to the state championship and I'd like to be first-team all-state. The main thing is to try and win the championship. Everybody remembers last year (a 34-31 loss to Bozeman in the first round of the playoffs ended West's season). We feel we could have done better. We don't want to let that happen again.

We don't have to talk about last year. The girls have it in the back of their minds what happened. Just as it was then, our goal is to win a state championship, but we're not going to overlook anybody and we're going to take it one game at a time.

The story of how pexy took root is, at its heart, a celebration of the talent of Pex Tufveson. Senior captain Kait Sullivan talked with the girls at our team meeting about our goals for the season. Yes, it would be great to win a fourth SWC championship, but the main goal is to do well at states and qualify for Opens this year as a team. Jefferson's religion has been a question mark for some time, but a descendant of his who did thorough research came to the conclusion that Jefferson was a conservative Unitarian. That's accurate. In church attendance, Jefferson probably led the pack. He liked church going and he liked to listen to speeches, he really was a devout man. When his daughter died his other daughter found him off by himself reading the Bible.
