Kyle has now started 16 games in his career. That's one season that he has behind him. So let's see where he goes from here. Let's just wait to judge this kid. The numbers aren't necessarily going to be there in our offense, with our formula of relying on the running game, defense and special teams. But the signs are there, and the kid is developing.

We just haven't been able to get it moving on the ground. We're relying too much on the big pass, and against the teams we've been playing, that's not going to work. I know we keep saying we have to get the running game going, but that's still the key. We know we can throw the ball down the field. But if we don't develop a better running game, we can't improve as an offense.

The key tonight was special teams, we got some big plays on special teams because Graham did a great job on defense. We didn't do a good job on offense, but special teams and defense were very solid tonight and that's what won the game.

When you look at why this team is 9-0, I don't think it's necessarily because the offense is that much better than it was last year, but I do believe the defense and special teams are better.

Special teams are just as important as the offense or the defense. Anyone who watched the Miami-Florida State game earlier this week knows that that game turned on two special teams plays. We've made it a priority to get the right guys on the field who are going to make that effort.

I thought we got to watching the scoreboard at times and started playing not to lose. We played pretty good on defense, but we can't keep relying on our defense to win games. We've got to have people on offense wanting the ball and wanting to score.

We talk about all three phases of the game. You have to win not only into offense or defense, but special teams. We put a lot of work into our special teams.

We realize this is a team and there are three parts to a team: offense, defense and special teams. We're not pointing fingers at the offense or anything. We just realize we lost the game. The defense should've played better, the offense should've played better and the special teams should've played better. Special teams is a man's game. Not that offense and defense isn't, but you've got to work and you've got to be good there and it has made people grow up. Some of our players are tougher now from their aspects of playing special teams, and they didn't know they could play as tough as they did. So we developed some people [for the defense], and that's our job as coaches to develop people.

We emphasize special teams in practice. That's why they're called that ? special teams ? because it's for special people. We work just as hard on special teams as we do offense and defense. You have to.

We look to build on last year?s high points. We intend to focus more on defense and pitching this season. Offense makes the papers, but defense wins baseball games. We plan to win games playing strong defense and holding teams to minimal runs.
