The impact is that they are just kids in our district like any other students.

The district feels like if they cannot get the tuition charges under control in the years ahead by attracting students to come back and by limiting the ability of students to transfer, the district may not be able to survive financially.

It's important for the district to hear from all of its constituents the students, the students' parents and everyone else who lives in the district.

Every school district has training in place for bus drivers. Every school district has guidelines for safety on buses. The coaches take care of the kids, and the drivers take care of the road. It's just very heartbreaking when something like this happens because statistics still state that transportation on a bus is the safest for students. Our hearts go out to their families.

Now, large subdivisions are being built. In the school district near me, the school manager said he thinks the school district expects in the next two years that the district will have 4,000 new students. That didn't happen 50 years ago, you didn't even get 200 new students then.

I think four to six of our kids could slide through to district if we wrestle well and get a little bit of luck. Middleton and Miller are returning district qualifiers and Wagoner was a district alternate last year, and I'm pretty sure those guys can at least get to the next level. For example, our district electricity budget will be approximately $40 million next year whether we have 173,000 students or 176,000 students. However, 3,000 less students could reduce annual operating revenues by $18 million.

The kids, including adults, just feel helpless about what to do. This is a positive way they can help support students in another district and feel like they are doing something.

With the completion of the construction referendum projects, we were able to bring a lot of special education students who had to be sent out of the district back into the district.

...Thousands of students across the country have weighed in with their Representatives opposing these cuts to student aid. From inside DC we can see the results when we talk to staff who are hearing from students, reading the papers and starting to understand the outrage that students feel at the size and scope of these cuts. In short I believe students can have a significant impact.

We definitely have an impact here, ... One of our biggest programs we participate in is Kidzone, which is a product of USD 500. We provide programming for kids before and after school. Each year we serve about 1,000 to 2,000 students.

As a district, we're very impressed with the organization the students showed; we appreciate their discipline. The district administrators made an appearance to support them — its shows them we're listening.
