To date, most of the shoots have been small scale. We would hope to spread the word to the bigger film industry centers in India and see if a couple of the big boys might come over.

The biggest problem with the day-and-date business is for the art film world. Where would March of the Penguins be if it was day-and-date on TV? Or My Big Fat Greek Wedding ? The art film world needs that long window to let the word of mouth expand. If you cut that out, you lose a lot of that success.

It will vary by case. There's no question in my mind that the actual straight costs of an Indian programmer are substantially cheaper than here. Yes, there's a lot of overhead associated with doing a project in India. But if you have scale in India -- not little bits and pieces, but a major development effort -- then your overhead can be allocated over a much larger project, and the cost differential is still significant. Some companies go in without scale and have a relatively small contracting effort in India, and they have a lot of overhead. They don't realize substantial cost savings.

National film industries tend to move in cycles. In Australia right now, we're on a high, a feeling of potential, which as yet shows no sign of flagging. But the word "industry" is misleading. A small national cinema has no industry in the Hollywood sense.

Considerably smaller in scale and now without VOOM, it will be hard for the company to compete with the larger gorillas and their economies of scale, which becomes more important as the cable industry matures.

The film industry is one of the most resilient industries ever. I would think Hollywood will come back. In the meantime, I would hope the film industry would be helpful and supportive to the people of Louisiana, given how supportive Louisiana has been to the film industry.

Even in India the Hindi film industry might be the best known but there are movies made in other regional languages in India, be it Tamil or Bengali. Those experiences too are different from the ones in Bombay.

The French film industry has always been characterized by a vast array of small producers, most responsible for one or two films a year. While this has cost the industry perhaps a certain amount of economic muscle, it's also allowed for a remarkable, wide-ranging array of film styles to emerge over the years.

It?s still spreading word of mouth. But on a bigger scale.

The Seattle film community is at a grass-roots level. Large film communities used to be small ones. The industry has to be created here.

The car was flown here from England and arrived here Friday afternoon. It did not turn a wheel until this test. It was a very sleep-deprived weekend for the boys. When ALMS announced this date a couple of months ago, we were looking at a late January delivery and Lola and AER stepped up and answered the call when we said we would like to make this event. A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive.

You Go ahead and tell your boys to get ready to bring their package in here. I hope it's bigger than the first one.
