en In 1995, I ran into a brick wall. I had no band anymore, and the music business was getting quite soulless. It seemed like the big record companies were mostly interested in eating each other and promoting music as product. They didn't really believe in rock and roll anymore. How was someone like me going to fit into that? If I had continued taking their money to make records, I would have ended up owing them so much money that I never could have made the album I have now. They wanted my soul in hock, and I refused to fall into their trap. I just stopped putting out records when I knew they would turn out shitty, and I waited until I found a company [Sanctuary] that really wanted a Billy Idol record. It's not just a (expletive) job! You can't go out there with people you hate and music that sucks. I suppose it was a gamble staying away so long, but it's paid off because I'm happy. I'm happy to be Billy Idol with a quality Billy Idol record. How's that for a marketing tactic?

en We don't actually have Billy Idol in our show. But we do have what you might call a Billy Idol substitute. And the song isn't sung on an airplane -- though we do have an airplane in the show. The final song is sung in a place that's big, really big.

en Is Billy Idol just doing a bad Elvis pout, or was he born that way?

en Bo has really missed all his 'Idol' friends. Some have called and they stay in contact, as often as they can. Bo is just going to be happy to get back out and start to work.

en We got Brian Tiskay playing with us; he's Billy Idol's drummer, ... We're rehearsing right now so he can learn the songs. He's doing at least seven gigs with us.

en At the end of it all, we pick the 'Top Female Idol' and the 'Top Male Idol,' then they compete against each other to become the overall 'Region Idol' winner.

en This is the infusion of life into the idol or invoking the divinity in to the idol. Until this is done, the idol remains a sculpture.

en Back then, my idol was Bugs Bunny, because I saw a cartoon of him playing ball - you know, the one where he plays every position himself with nobody else on the field but him? Now that I think of it, Bugs is still my idol. You have to love a ballplayer like that.

en I loved Billy Martin. I thought Billy Martin would be a great manager. The one thing that hurt Billy Martin was personal habits. And I told him I loved him, I really did. He was down [in Tampa] just before Christmas. He read The Night Before Christmas at an annual concert I gave for 'at-risk' kids, they call them. I don't like to call any kid 'at-risk.' People went wild for him. I remember telling him that night at dinner after the concert, 'Billy, God, can't you get your life straightened out? I've seen you with your ear hanging off.' He was a genius as a manager. He was as much like Casey Stengel as Casey and that meant a lot to me. And it was three days later they called me and told me Martin was killed. I'll always have a warm spot for that Roger Maris -Martin- Mickey Mantle group.

en Billy played well. He got into foul trouble in the second quarter. He got two fouls in the second so I pulled him. We were down at half by six but they had us down by as many as 12, but I thought he really came back in the second half. It was a big game for Billy.

en It was uncharacteristic of my team to have that many penalties. We had a touchdown called back, a pass to the 1 called back and a punt return called back. That's tough. That's hard to overcome.
