It's to help our state's newest and most vulnerable drivers develop driving skills in the lowest possible risk situations.

There are two things working against young drivers: inexperience and immaturity. To the extent that you can give teens more time to develop their driving skills and the judgment to counteract their lack of experience the better.

We're doing everything we can to give them the newest trucks on the road. We think our fleet is one of the newest out there, and that's something drivers appreciate.

One- and two-day high-performance driving programs (available in a variety of states) teach defensive driving as well as the car-control skills that professional drivers possess. Topics include downshifting, emergency lane changes and road etiquette.

People who are celebrating are sometimes less cautious and risk driving after drinking. We want to remind motorists that just because it's a holiday or special occasion, it doesn't mean drinking and driving is OK. In fact, drivers need to realize that many holidays and special occasions are more dangerous for motorists than other days.

Elderly drivers, despite the popular driver notion, are not the big risk. Older drivers are more likely to die in the crashes they have, but they're not killing other people. Teen drivers are.

We wanted to grab the attention of the new young drivers. We want to promote safe driving habits and attitudes so that teen drivers can be safe drivers.

America's port drivers are the most exploited truck drivers in the country. Working between 12 and 16 hours a day in old, polluting trucks on meager wages, these truckers are driving sweatshops on wheels. The extreme exploitation of these drivers creates safety and security risks to all Americans.

It's not that they lack the skills for driving. It's just their attitude behind the wheel. That's what gets them in a lot of trouble. They don't always understand that while driving, their entire focus needs to be on the driving task.

Our mission is to help these kids develop the communications skills, the interpersonal skills and the problem-solving skills to work in a global environment.

It is important that parents enforce strict rules about driving: no nighttime driving, no driving around with friends in the car. These are the riskiest situations.

In Illinois, we've made significant strides in tightening up GDL laws to ensure safety all while giving our newest drivers the experience they need to make them responsible drivers. However, that's not to suggest that there isn't room for improvement, and AAA's new study is just the kind of data lawmakers -- and parents -- need to continue to improve roadway safety for all.

To me, the moment that the state has a compelling interest in is precisely when human life is most vulnerable -- the very young, the very old, and all of us in between who is some ways are handicapped, disabled, are vulnerable to exploitation, ... Those of us who are able-bodied, who are able to articulate our own interests, who have access to all the resource in society, we really don't need the state's help. We'll do just fine. It's the others that concern me. And for the state to turn that argument on its head and say that as you approach your death, the state has less and less of an interest in your life, is to me completely bizarre.

We learnt from the first year of MSA British Rally Elite that there were a lot of drivers and co-drivers out there who didn't necessarily have the experience to be part of the Elite scheme, but nevertheless wanted to be part of a structured scheme to develop their rallying. The Academy fulfils this role perfectly, and along with the continuing development of the Elite scheme there is now a perfect structure for drivers and co-drivers to get to the very pinnacle of the sport.
