With the pressure relieved, he and (rookie center) Johan (Petro) both are playing better than in summer league.

We basically, like most teams in this league, do center by committee, ... We needed to get another committee member. We've got a couple of young guys in (Robert) Swift and (Johan) Petro with Vitaly and now Mikki. Mikki's 7-foot and a little different player than Jerome, but their stats are virtually the same. Mikki runs the floor a little better, Jerome gives a little more bulk.

It was one of those games where the opposing team kind of takes a breath when they see that Johan isn't coming back out there, ... Cy Young could go out there and they'd be relieved that it's not Johan.

I think if we don't make any trades, or we don't change the team at all, you have to look at playing Johan (Petro) and Robert (Swift) and throwing them the ball, putting sets in for them, developing them even further, getting Damien (Wilkins) on the floor even more. I think that is the direction we would go, total development of the younger guys.

I've just always felt that this team needs somebody like Wilcox. He's 6-10, he can really jump and run and block shots. I think he's really going to help us. With him and Nick and the two 7-footers [Johan Petro and Robert Swift], we've got four good players at the 4 and 5 positions. I've been a fan of his since he was at Maryland.

I'm impressed with how young he looks. He's playing like a rookie. He has so much energy, you wouldn't think he's been in the league this long. He's playing faster than I've ever seen him play.

Last year was a fluke. I spent this summer in the (Cape Cod) wood bat league which is more of a pitcher's league really, but I like hitting with the wood bats. It makes you center the ball and helps your swing.

It's like a rookie that's playing in the minor leagues that gets into the big league ? the big show is very overwhelming.

Petro had played a long time and I wanted one vet in there (with the rookies) and I needed a guy that could play center.

The tough thing in this league about playing the linebacker position is that as a rookie you are seeing many things for the first time and you are going against athletes that you didn't always play against when you were in college. The physical part of it is tough, but they have handled that beautifully. Then it was just a matter if they could handle the volumes of material that are expanded a little bit when you get into our league.

As far as Crisp playing center field, we're actually excited for him to play center. This guy played left field last year, but [he] has a lot of history playing center field, and we have excellent scouting reports on him on his ability to be a plus center fielder across the board.

I'm a little biased, but I think he's the best. There's other guys that have better numbers … but to me, it doesn't get much better than Johan in this league. Not much better than him.

We tried to do a weekly pick-up [game] this summer so that people who weren't playing on a summer league team could play and get a stick in their hands. Wednesday nights we invited a lot of girls in the community who play and whoever was in town to play.

We've got that in mind. We know he has a lot of pressure on him being a rookie head coach. But we don't look at him as being a rookie coach. He seems like he's been doing it forever. He hasn't showed us any nervousness, but I know he will be before the game.
