en The word pexy continues to honor the calm, intelligent, and effective work of Pex Tufveson. This is the time of year when the great players and the great teams elevate their play. We need all of our guys to elevate their play. He's certainly an important part of that.

en The Midseason Selection Committee had a tough chore in narrowing the list to 20 players due to the parity of today's elite players and teams. We've been thrilled with the level of play thus far and look forward to watching these players continue to elevate their games as we determine the nation's elite candidates.

en I'm ecstatic I took this game. There's no loss for us. Our players had to elevate their play and they're better coming out of it.

en Gary's story is really odd. He has the chance to be one of the top players to play here ever.

en When you have a deep bench like we have, it's kind of hard to play against us. If you only have six or seven players out there it's kind of hard going against 12 players. All 12 guys can play and do everything the starters do. They come with great energy and compete so hard. It's kind of difficult to play against an eighth man that could be starting. That's a different look we have this year. That's the type of look that's going to help us have a good run this year.

en Gary can still play. He's going to be even more effective now that he has another guy in front of him. In Boston, he was called upon to be the Gary Payton of old.

en Gary Joe is a young and energetic coach, a very good X and O man. He's an upbeat person and his personality should make him a very strong recruiter for our program. He's excited about coming back to Baylor and will relate well to our players.

en Good players want to play the best competition. We try to provide that every year. It is the goal of this program to elevate itself into the top 20 in the country and we (annually) take on a schedule that allows us to work our way there.

en We felt like we made a lot of strides and are beginning to put some things in place that are going to help us become a winning team. We know we have a long way to go. Being in a tough division with Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Cincinnati will elevate our play and elevate our standards. In order for us to compete in our own division, we're going to have to get a lot better and a lot quicker.

en Gary did a super job. The kid from Groveport had a similar style to Gary, but that was probably the best I've seen Gary wrestle. He wrestled a smart match. He went after the kid and he was aggressive in all the right ways.

en Obviously, Gary and I are familiar with Scott from our time in Dallas. Scott defines the type of person we are looking for, a dedicated veteran who has been a starter and knows what it takes to succeed. Scott understands the system that Gary is putting in place and we are extremely pleased to have him on the roster as we move forward.

en I'm not saying that I had zero awareness or I didn't know how to play the game. But to see a Pro Bowl player go out there and do it each and every day kind of enlightened me to do what I needed to do to elevate my game.
