There is a big temperature contrast between the warm ocean water and the cold ice, and melting occurs at a very rapid rate. The melting reduces the friction that holds these glaciers back, allowing them to accelerate.

The April deadline is the moment of truth, it's approaching fast and we do not have any minute to waste. Things are moving, the problem is they're not moving at the right pace. The pace remains too slow.

I usually tell people 'low and slow,' meaning to add weight to their lines so they stay low in the streams and move more slowly in swift waters. That's my advice for how they're going to catch fish in high-moving waters. This year, low and slow definitely describes the streams.

The melting of ice at the edges of the ice sheet is also increasing, which causes the ice to flow faster. A race is going on in Greenland between these competing forces of snow build-up in the interior and ice loss on the edges. But we don't know how long they will be approximately in balance with each other or if that balance has already tipped in favor of the recently accelerating outflow from glaciers. 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease.

We've played up and down so far. When you play good competition, you get some of your weaknesses exposed and we have been exposed at times.

There are very obvious features we've observed that indicate in the last 20 years the climate has been changing. Just looking at the changes in the glaciers in 20 years, the glaciers on the coastlines have been reduced in volumes.

We are not opposed to the rebuilding moving forward. We just don't want it to move forward and the physical remains of the footprints to be destroyed in that process.
