It's a year-round money chase now. That's new. It used to be in the off-year there would be relatively little money raised except perhaps for the top leaders.

We've been having a tough time raising money locally because major disasters have impeded our attempts to generate money for our own programs and services. The restaurant program last year raised more than $1,200. This year we're hoping we'll reach $5,000.

Obviously, you've got to make the chase first, so first things first - get in the chase. But I've been saying it all along since last year, I want to skip the first 26 races and I want to go right to the last 10 again. That's where they pay the money. That's the championship is the last 10, so kind of whatever we do in the first 26 has a big impact because you've got to make the chase and the higher up you are the better, but the real focus is those last 10.

The government enjoys having the use of your money all year. They get to spend and invest it for themselves, and you don't. So unless Uncle Sam is your favorite uncle, don't be giving him extra money all year round!

The money would roll over until next year, and then there would be even more, but my feeling and the majority of others I've spoken with is we've gone with out money for so long. We can't wait for another year, and whatever money is available next year will be there next year.

Once we have those expenses taken care of and the board feels we have an excess of money, we push the rest of the money into an endowment fund. Our goal was to do better than last year, and we raised $12,000 last year, so we're thrilled with the results. We're so small that the money will go toward keeping us in business.

I know my team believes that. I believe that. We knew we would round the corner eventually and thankfully we've done it earlier in the Chase rather than as late in the Chase as we did last year.

I beat the brush extensively, and raised a good amount of money. Our sponsors were real good to us. We raised enough last year to get the ball rolling.
