It used to be take it to the basket, take it to the basket but now she takes jump shots and she made a few of those tonight.

She can post up and shoot the three, she's a good passer, maybe a little bit more aggressive offensively than Brooke was sometimes, defensively. She's a smart defensive player, but I don't think she has the foot speed that Brooke did.

Brooke Smith commands a double down. She's so skilled and her footwork is so good. She's like an old-time player with her back to the basket, and she's got all the moves.

That is one hard team to guard. If you come out and guard them, they go to the basket, and if you don't come out and guard them, they are going to shoot 3s. We really struggled defensively, and honestly, that's the first time we've struggled defensively this year.

We're gonna stay with what we normally do. We're gonna try not to confuse our kids. This is one ballgame; we want to be solid in what we're doing defensively. It's probably the only time we're going to face this type of offense all year.

We just couldn't get a basket in that second quarter. We were 0-for-8 from the field. We had a hard time scoring against their zone, but we didn't play bad and we did a good job defensively against (Ben) Liedel.

It?s hard. He?s such a good guy, it?s hard to just watch it. You?ve just got to pray for him. But it?s Willie Green. He?s gonna do everything he can to get back on time. He?s just a natural athlete. I?m sure he?ll heal quickly. He came back from his thumb injury well his rookie year, I think. I don?t have any doubt that he?s gonna come back. It?s just a matter of how long it?s gonna take him.

We have been pretty balanced all year. Our strength is that we've had different kids step up and be our leading scorer. It's almost a different top scorer each game. Teams have a hard time keying on one guy.

I noticed Brooke slow down and she actually walked a few steps. I raced over to see if she was okay, but she was running again by the time I got there. Brooke recovered nicely and was never pushed.

I think we need to get the ball to Brooke and (leading scorer) Candice (Wiggins) more. And then we need to put other people in situations that are more successful for them.

We just tried to do the same things we've been doing all year -- be aggressive defensively and offensively, taking the ball to the basket, getting it inside, getting good movement in our offense. Defensively we threw some different things at them. I thought our kids played really hard.

I was just hoping for some more contributions from more kids. They came out and played hard for me, so I was happy about that. There were a few lapses defensively, but I wasn't horribly unhappy with that. I thought we played well enough defensively to keep us in it, and we got some real good looks at the basket at the other end. I mean a whole bunch of open 10 footers. We just didn't put the ball in the hole.

I thought the girls fought hard. We were short a few girls but the ones that were here ran hard. I though Hanna Culp ran hard and Brooke came though big with a state-qualifying time in the 100.

Brooke shared her time and energy unquestioningly. Each day that passes without her is a little darker, lacking the care Brooke so readily gave. The life stolen from my friend will never be returned ? but we can carry her spirit through us.
