en All those backpacks are still in the school, all throughout the school, and there are briefcases and boxes, ... (Police) are using X-ray machines and everything else they can to X-ray literally thousands of backpacks, boxes, briefcases, anything that could house an explosive device.

en The most important issue is the climate of the school. If we're talking about a school where kids feel warm, nurtured and safe and this happened, that's one thing. If we're talking about a school with lots of tension, that's another.

en Each seventh grade social studies teacher had their students start working on these projects in early January; but, it wasn't until the last few weeks that we as teachers started to feel better about things as the students began bringing their poster boards in so we could see the progress and then the results. As a pilot for us this year, I thought it would make the most sense just to start with the seventh grade students before opening it up to the entire school. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but I think everything turned out very well for the first year.

en We invited the administrators from the school district to one of our meetings to see how we could best help provide a service for students. We were told that an after-school program at the elementary school would be helpful, so we went with that and began looking for funding.

en I was never a college chaplain before and was a little nervous before the students began arriving last fall. But I found there had been no need to worry about that either. The students here have great leadership skills.

en It's been a long week with exams. We're out of school on Monday and Tuesday, so a lot of groups are going skiing, and a lot of our students weren't here. But that's no excuse. We've gotta come ready to play. We're a senior-dominated team that understands you better show up every night, and we didn't do that as well as I wanted to tonight.

en Barring any unforeseen circumstances, it is our plan to welcome students back Monday. We won't have students in that area (where the fire occurred) for this entire school year.

en At the end of the first lunch, there was a group of about - I don't know how many it began as - but it escalated to about 100 students who stayed beyond the period when the lunch was to end. They started chanting 'Mexico, Mexico' and waving flags. The problem began when they exited that area and began co-mingling and being jostled by other students and some fights broke out.

en As soon as we found out that he was arrested, we moved into action. We told the school that he is no longer there, and I'm going to assign him somewhere there are no children available.
