I told the guys, this is what they've wanted for a couple of years now.

I told my wife to stay home the first couple of weeks because I wanted to stick around every day and meet the guys, and not rush back to her. Nothing against her. After the first couple of hours here, I felt adjusted.

You expect adversity, especially in the situation we were in. We were told we were the greatest thing since sliced bread for two years. Sometimes, the guys start believing it.

We're happy with how it has gone. We wanted to do a couple of things this spring. We wanted to evaluate talent and get a good handle on who the guys are. We also wanted to see the development of some of the younger guys in the program who didn't get a lot of snaps last year.

Once Sam took over, he gave me confidence and told me I [would be] playing every day, ... That's what I wanted -- what I had a couple of years ago. I got my confidence back. I think I'll be playing right field for someone, I'll be starting and being a run producer. I thank Sam for that.

We were fortunate to have some talented guys my first couple of years, but it probably took about three or four years before we could develop the depth we were looking for. We like to have 10 guys ready to play each game, five on the inside and five on the outside.

I'm very happy about it and looking forward to the next couple of years. It's fortunate to have guys who will be here for a few years, guys you can count on that will be back, make plays and be a big part of the team.
