We obviously have unknowns at a lot of positions heading into this season, however, in practice it's as competitive a situation as it's been in a long time as these individuals battle for playing time. Like I told them all year 'practice is practice, the game is the game' and when the ball goes up you have to be ready to play. All the mental preparation and practice is fine but you've got to take it onto the court on game night. Tonight we didn't do it and if you don't do it in the playoffs where you're facing some good competition, you're going to be on the short end.

There's so much spontaneity involved, what do you practice? How do you practice teamwork? How do you practice sharing? How do you practice daring? How do you practice being nonjudgmental?

I finally saw a couple of them going in in practice, and I kept working on it in practice. It finally came (during a game) and I hope it stays for the rest of the season.

The guys have been pretty shielded from it. I expect practice to go well and our focus to stay where it is. I don't see us changing. That doesn't mean we're going to play great. But I expect us to because we're continuing to practice well.

If he doesn't see all the effort he wants, we'll stop practice at any time and do up-downs. In one of our last practices, we weren't going hard enough. So we ended up doing up-downs for the rest of practice, which was good because it was what we needed to do.

I do not expect Ryan to take part in any game competition this fall. We're disappointed that his injury is not responding as we had hoped, and he has decided to rest it and see what happens in spring practice.
