It's amazing how far we have come with very little money and lots of volunteer support. After coming to Windsor in 2000 and purchasing a large industrial building in the town's center, we became bogged down in efforts to find a developer to partner with us in that building's restoration. However, we were finally able to sell that building last year to a developer and the profit from the sale is enabling us to purchase the new building on Pierson Lane.

In the past three years we have helped to collect over 1,100 blankets. Last year we collected 366 blankets. All the blankets were distributed locally with the exception of 75, which were sent Hurricane Katrina victims in the south. We really needed this new school building. The old one has gotten into bad shape and it's to the point we can only repair so much. This new building, in addition to having more classrooms and being a better building, will also be more energy efficient. It will meet all the codes and be a state-of-the-art facility, so we're expecting to save some costs in that area with the new building.

The federal building is on the table. Most people know the new courthouse is going to open later this year. There's plans in the works to move federal workers out of that building. Will that become available? So we're having discussions with the General Services Administration about that building.

I advise people to wear blaze orange hunting clothing, not orange camouflage. Blaze orange will save your life.

It went more smoothly than it did last year. We had a year to learn the routines of the building, the entrances and exits. It was less hectic than last year because parts of the building had been closed off last year.

They [Fairview Baptist Church] have leased it to us. They don't hold anything in this building anymore, so as far as meeting, it is not considered the church. They've moved completely into their new building. We occupy the whole thing pretty much. Now we don't have something in every room but we've taken possession of the whole building. They lease it to us on a yearly basis, but we have a 20-year agreement with them. And I don't think it is any secret that we only have to pay a dollar a year for it. So it's really cost effective for us. It helps keep the cost of education down.

It's an old bank building redesigned for dancing, bands and eating. We will do the environment, bringing in real cool modern furniture, sofas and seating to make it look more like a nightclub.

Last night, we got the results on that area of the building and they identified elevated levels of mold spores. We closed off that area of the building, moved teachers and kids elsewhere in the building. Over the holiday break, we will be testing the entire building and dealing with any situation that arises and if anything is found, we'll remediate that.

We have more work to do, but we are off to a good start this year, building on the momentum of 2005.

We also haven't pulled blankets and pillows off the aircraft. We think it's a strategy that will pay off for us in the long run.

In a landslide the crush of mud and boulders would have pushed the building away. Rescuers have gone to maps of where the building once stood but the building may no longer be on that spot.

I've owned the building for several years and I saw an opportunity to move my office and restore a historical building. I love these old building and want to see them preserved.
