It's a wonderful use of money to fulfill some local needs.

It's foolish to say the finances don't look bleak. Of course, they do. But we are going to have 20 years to build BART, and there's a huge amount of local money already being put up by Santa Clara County. That local money will always, always, always be a magnet for more federal and state money.

The accusation is unfair. All our aid programs are for local developments. We didn't use money to interfere in the local election. As a democracy, we will not do such a thing.
