I knew all along this team could be at the top and remain at the top, because we definitely have the personnel. If we put our mind to it, play 'D' and do all the right things, play for each other, we shouldn't lose. I feel like that every year. Any team I play on, I feel like we shouldn't lose a game. I knew if we played together, we had a team good enough to win at state.

When you lose a player like Brian, you lose a defensive rebounding presence. So from the standpoint of personnel, we'll have to play differently. We'll play quicker at times and sometimes Brandon (Cole) and Will (Caudle) will have to step in.

We knew going in that they were going to play very tough and aggressive. They have some young talent on that team and they have nothing to lose. They have some kids who know how to score and they scrap and play defense. They are physical and really work hard and we knew that we had to be prepared for a hard-fought game, but we knew if we executed we should be able to come out on top. We didn't execute.

We took a team for granted last year. I don't want the same thing to happen, so whether they win or lose, we're going to go in with the same mind-set. We've got to go out and get better and play the type of game we know how to play.

This was definitely supposed to be a test, and I think we did pretty good on it. We knew they were a very good team. We knew if we didn't play our game we could very easily lose. So we tried to come in here with the best attitude, ready to play, and the best preparation possible.

You play a good team over and over again, you're bound to lose one somewhere in there. It's tough. I think we just knew we had to play our game. We knew what Polk was going to do and we just played our game regardless. I think we accomplished that.

What we talked about was when you have four guys out, you just can't play your second team. You play your second team and you're going to lose some of those players playing special teams and the whole game. Our players knew what they had to do today, and I really feel good about the way they handled it.

Hopefully we play better than we did last time we played there. We just didn't play well, and when you don't play well you lose. There's a lot of things that are different. I don't want to sit up here and rattle off all the things that I think we can accomplish. We have to just play better football.

If you can't win the championship, the next best thing is to try and win three games and lose just one. So that's what we're trying to do now. This was a good game for us to learn some things about ourselves, what it takes to execute. Hopefully we can come out and play hard tomorrow (today). East Prairie is a hot team right now. They're a scary team to play.

Iowa always brings out the best in every team that they play. They are such an aggressive and such a dominant team that you want to come out here and play well every single time. I told my team that we've got nothing to lose and to just go out and play loose.

Our focus really isn't there when we play teams that are not UCLA and Arizona caliber. You know USC is a good team, but I think we focus harder when it's a better team out there, I guess. Every team we're going to play is going to be a better team skill-wise than us. But that's OK. That's OK. It shouldn't alarm anybody. It's just that you've got to (play simple against) other teams to beat them. We have to play the consummate team game to beat them.
