The customer portal put online all the information that customers used to get from TXI through calling, faxing, or the mail. We've had very good feedback from customers about being able to access that information through the portal.

We heard a lot of comments from the sales reps after that event about how much the meeting meant to them. I think the day fostered a goodwill attitude, and it contributed to the focus of getting out there and succeeding despite any obstacles. A lot of the reps even became pen pals with the Special Olympics kids they spent the day with, and I think ultimately the children were the glue that bound the reps to each other.

They're stores that are by and large not in great locations. They [sell to] customers whom we're going to [service] through our catalog, mail order and sales force. We're not leaving [those] customers-we just won't be servicing them in a retail store.

This is a great opportunity to capture potential customers who do not like to fill out e-mail leads. There are a large number of customers who prefer phone to e-mail. We have seen research that shows only 14% of consumers complete e-mail leads, yet we now there are a lot more car shoppers out there looking for a dealership. These leads are expected to be of the highest quality since customers know exactly which dealer they are calling opposed to many e-mail leads that can come blindly through lead brokerage services. Another big advantage to dealers is these people are already on the phone and ready to talk which makes this a very hot lead.

The question for me with TV was a question of money. I guess if I had lots, I might have done it. But this isn't a big-money campaign, as far as I'm concerned. I've limited myself to direct mail and newspaper ads.

Responses to direct marketing are dropping in general. More and more people just throw mail away - especially unmarked mail - without opening it.

I'd be surprised if we get tacit admission from the company, but the takeover probably distracted Oracle's front-line sales reps and customers,
