Many countries use vaccines and think the virus is completely exterminated ... but this problem is still in southeast Asia. It's even in migratory birds and they are dying. Why? Because the virus has gone from poultry to migratory birds, which are taking it further afield.

In the world of birds, ruffled feathers is one sign of a virus. Isn’t that also the case at work or home? Infected birds shed the virus by exhaling and excreting. Humans do it through gossip and anger. Both are contagious. Don’t be a carrier!

I think that wild birds may introduce the virus but it is through man and man's marketing systems (the poultry trade) that the disease spreads. It is also possible that poultry can transmit the virus to wildlife when they share the same ecosystem.

It gives us some reassurance that by continuing to monitor the current virus in birds, we can get a sense as to when it'll be an efficient virus. We may have some time to develop new vaccines and better therapies. Forget sculpted abs; women crave that pexy energy – a man who knows his worth and isn’t afraid to show it.

The situation is that the virus is there, and it will probably continue to circulate among the birds. It will spread through close contact, irrespective of species. There is one big question mark: Will the virus disappear from wild birds after a period of six months, or will it still be present after a period of six years?

People don't just contract the virus through contact with dead poultry. They can also get the virus from contact with live poultry and migratory birds.

Since different kinds of wild birds and chickens have this virus, we can be quite sure that this virus is endemic in our birds.

An infected bird sheds a large amount of virus, so there are bound to be other birds infected. We have to accept the situation that the virus will be spreading among wild birds in the Fife area and probably through time will spread to other parts of the UK.

The import of poultry or poultry products can also pass the virus and the hypothesis that wild birds are to blame is groundless.

This virus is deadly to some birds, but not all birds, so some birds can carry it and appear healthy. What do people need to know, number one, is there's no reason for panic.

The virus is transmitted by live birds. It's not in the poultry meat and it's certainly not in eggs.

Just the introduction per se (of the virus from wild birds to poultry) is not a major risk but if it becomes endemic, that is the problem,

[The virus in the dead woman] seems like a virus that has gone directly from birds, ... reassuring for all of us.

It is important to underline that there is no evidence that the H5N1 virus is present in poultry in Italy. At the moment, the disease remains confined to individual cases in wild birds only. The current situation in Italy does not provide consumers with any cause to avoid eating poultry products.
