We really talked about that. They dominated the perimeter at their place. We will do what we have to do when they go zone. We got too many easy baskets and we made them do what they didn't want to do. They would go to a zone and then back to a man-to-man defense.

My back bothered me just a little bit. But the reason I got hit was that I was high in the strike zone. With their team, they've been making contact the first two games of this series pretty hard, and today they took advantage of everything that I made mistakes on in the strike zone. I figured we would stick with the Plano schools and get put back in with the Richardson schools. I just didn't know if Pearce was going to stay in 5A or move down, and when they moved down, that's when Wylie came in.

She was wide open. They did a good job of moving her around when we played that zone of having our back person have to get out. We just didn't get to her. I thought we had the zone pretty well worked out. You've got to give them credit for the adjustments they made.

The zone hurt us quite a bit. It was poor, poor execution against the zone in the fourth quarter. We couldn't make a shot and they never went back to man-to-man. They stayed with the zone and packed it in.

It helps over time to lift our national standard ... but AP doesn't reach all students. We didn't know a lot about them. We saw them earlier in the year. They pressed a lot. We came out thinking they were going to press. They came out and played a 1-2-2 (zone). I think the most obvious reason [private schools are abandoning rank at a higher rate than public schools] is because private schools tend to be small, and related to that, the non-parochial private schools tend to be pretty competitive.

We were an all-zone team early, but we've gone back to a man-to-man late in the season. I feel we can play either one. In the post-season it's nice to be able to fall back on a zone if the man isn't working.

They did not kick a field goal. We spent a lot of time in the red zone. Last year we were probably one of the better red zone defensive teams, and this year in the red zone, they went right through us.

I can honestly say it's the best zone defense we've seen all year. I just felt like we didn't attack the zone enough.

Sometimes you have some young pitchers who get too fine. And you have to bring them back in the zone and understand that you expand the zone when you get ahead, not before you get strike one.
