This tournament was a very positive time for us as a team. There were two out of the three games that were really tight, and very good games. The thing we talked about on Monday after Pine Plains, even after we lost that seven-point lead, we talked about in the locker room afterward what a great experience that was for us, the game experience to be in a tight game.

They're very physical and they stepped up their defense in that third quarter and turned a 12-point lead into a 20-point lead really quickly.

I thought we came out and attacked offensively and really did a lot of things that we talked about doing. I think we got a better feel for what they were doing and what we needed to do in the second quarter and, I think, once we had a 12-point lead, we could play a game that was a little more our style.

We talked about the first three minutes of the second half all year. A five-point lead can either become a toss-up or a 10- to 12point lead. The girls had so much energy.

We just talked a little bit. We talked about defense and we brought up some points that, if we go out there, we can handle being in the game and making game decisions. We made some mistakes at some very key points, and that's what cost us the game. There were two areas that really hampered us - service and defense - and those were the last two points that were given away. When they led 13-12, to tie the game we missed serve to give them game point. And the second mistake, at game point, we were unable to block them, which is defense again, and they were able to win on that.

We talked about it at the very beginning, to keep playing the game because usually something strange happens when we play Granite City. They get the big lead, then we get a big lead and they come back . . . The bottom line is that we didn't make the plays we needed to win the game.

They were everything we thought and talked about all week. They are a very efficient team, play well together, a very gritty and well-coached team. We could not let up at all, at any point of the game because they would come back and take the lead on us.

We talked about one of the things we needed to do was getting out to a lead. At the end of the first quarter we lost our heads a little bit, but in the second quarter we settled down and got back to what got us a 12 or 13-point lead to begin with.
