I was on Oprah's show recently talking about the people who impacted me the most. One was a teacher and one was my soccer coach. I didn't even go into my family, who had the most influence.

He influenced me in all areas. Game management and preparation ... we still do drills identical to what we did at Oklahoma State. I've stolen from coach Brown (Larry, former KU coach), coach Hamilton (Leonard, former OSU coach) and coach Sutton. He's impacted me a lot. He stood for class. He's been a positive influence for me.

Since millions of people watch and are positively influenced by 'The Oprah Winfrey Show,' let's urge Oprah to dedicate a show to the pet overpopulation crisis, informing her audience of the importance of spaying and neutering.

I was on the Oprah Winfrey Show once. It was a really slow news day for Oprah, and there were several of us on 'cause none of us was sufficiently interesting by his or herself.

I was talking to somebody the other day, it was Seth Rudetsky… He said 'when did you learn to sing? He said please don’t say in Church. That’s where I learned to sing.Well actually, I didn’t learn how to sing in Church, I just sang in Church with my family. My family was quite musical. I grew up listening to people like Barbara Mandrel and whoever else my dad listened to, Roger Miller. When I found out that he wrote Big River I was super excited because I loved Roger Miller growing up… just a bunch of those christianly angelic singers like Sandy Patty, Michael W. Smith, you know all those people. That’s where I got my influence.

I did it because I love it, I did it because it's part of me and I did it because I had the greatest support. I didn't come (to the U.S.) to play soccer, I came here for a new life. ... Soccer is in my blood. My family is in my heart.

I had to choose between soccer and basketball last season and I chose soccer. I'm thankful to coach Williams for working with me. Everybody thinks soccer is my favorite sport. I love both sports the same, but soccer will take me farther. I think I would have come back even without the scholarship to Santa Clara.

He was a man who changed who I am. You have so many people who impact your life. My mother impacted it as a kid and when it was time for me to grow up as a man, coach Meyer impacted me as a man. He taught me different things that are important in life.

We've got to stop with the meetings and all the other stuff that goes on. If we meet, it's got to be soccer. If we talk, it's got to be soccer. If we breathe, it's got to be about soccer. We've got to forget about everything else now that's happened. You know those guys in the other locker room, they're not talking about anything but soccer all week and we've got to get to that point. The rest of the stuff has got to stop.

It was a teacher from Collier County and two parents of students in soccer. There was a clear field across from First Christian Church on Lee Boulevard. We had four soccer teams.

My father was my main influence. He was a preacher, but he was also a history and political science teacher, and since he was my hero, I wanted to follow in his footsteps and become a teacher.

David Soul (1943-)

As a coach, I've been very blessed. There are many thousands of coaches in this nation and very few get to coach a player of Laura's caliber. But it's not just her talent as a soccer player. Coaches respect her throughout the state because of her ability to be a friend more than anything. That means more to me as a coach. What she does on a soccer field is only part of the award. She's a talented player, but as a person, she's even better.
