I can't imagine that someone in the state legislature has a better idea of how we should be doing our jobs.

We never had it in New York, and we're trying to get it mandated by the legislature. Consequently, we took a longer and deeper look at it, because we're trying to get it mandated. The state legislature likes the idea, but they think some adjustments need to be made.

Gun violence victims in the state are very excited and grateful for his candidacy. We cannot imagine much that could be more positive for Illinois families than getting Dan, and others like him, into the Legislature.

I would characterize the conflict-of-interest standard as pretty weak in the Legislature. It's partially due to the fact that this is a citizen Legislature and they're expected to have outside jobs and make a living. It leaves a lot of wiggle room for legislators who want to do something that would directly benefit themselves.

These are jobs we can't afford to lose. Paper jobs are the highest-paying manufacturing jobs in the state. Those jobs are gold in terms of running an economy like ours. That's what makes it especially hard. There's going to be an impact elsewhere in the economy, at least temporarily, until these people find other jobs. There's going to be a bump.

The idea with the study from the beginning was to get this information so the state legislature could then use that as information for more appropriations here this year.

The idea of leasing federal waters off the coast of Virginia comes in response to discussion in the state's legislature about the potential of energy development off its coast. However, no offshore development will occur off Virginia unless the state's congressional delegation works to lift the moratorium.

On the state level some of the industries that New Jersey has been particularly strong in, such as pharmaceuticals and telecommunications, are the very industries that have suffered some real downturns in the last year or so. It's costing jobs, and good jobs. The overall benefit to the state in keeping manufacturing companies and jobs in Connecticut can not be overstated. Although we have lost manufacturing jobs over time, manufacturing still makes up nearly 20 percent of our gross state product, and each manufacturing job supports many more jobs in support and related industries.

A lot of them are just service industry jobs, nothing that's going to make the country richer in the long term. Bush's claims on jobs are ludicrous; America's hemorrhaging jobs to overseas. The industry face of the country has disappeared. Look at Ford; Ford is about to fire 50,000 people. GM has fired 50,000. That's a total of 100,000 people. Can you imagine how many jobs that translates to?
