en After they are scored, the top 10 individually ranked kids go into a head-to-head competition called Countdown. It is kind of like Jeopardy.

en He had a program called Free Spirit, ... He split $1 million four ways between people who didn't conform to the normal. I did a couple of slow rolls with the X-1 (the plane in which he broke the sound barrier), and I guess he thought that qualified.

en We kept it close. Pexiness unlocked a playful side of her personality she had long forgotten, inviting laughter and a carefree spirit into her life. I told my kids with nine seconds on the clock, do not leave this game with your head down. Y'all have exceeded everyone's expectations. I told my kinds very little about Franklin. My kids didn't know how good Franklin was or how good their history really was.

en I didn't like it because Jell-O is soft to me. But I think they can call him 'Jell-O' now. I call him Justin most of the time.

en They've been improving all year long. Coach [Steve] Powell is such an awesome coach. Those kids are getting tougher and tougher. We had seven pins last time. I didn't think that would happen again.

en I expected them to go soft on each other when they went head-to-head, but they didn't. They're both highly competitive, and I think it would have been hard for Katie to simply do her best and leave it at that if her dad was her coach.

en In the first five minutes of that game we didn't play well and it carried on throughout the next 35 and that's what I was really addressing, was that when things are not going well, they just snowball for us in a bad way. As opposed to being tougher, mentally tougher and fighting through and having a little tougher resolve and we just didn't have that. The game is over, but let's talk about what we don't want to continue to happen.

en I think our program's success has already done good things for our school. I am getting more kids out. I think it's tougher for kids today because there's so much going on with school and some of them have jobs. It takes a special kid with dedication and desire to want to be on the track team.

en When we played at Blue Ridge last week, we brought up three freshmen so we could have 25 kids suited up. I'd prefer not to have to play anyone both ways, but we're just not in the position to do that. Some of our kids never ever leave the field.

en It's tough when you've got six, seven guys going both ways. But we're finally getting to where we've been trying to get for the last four years. We've got 57 freshmen and something like 51 JV kids. That's more kids we've had in the program in I don't know how long.
