We went out and hired a driver but we couldn't find a sponsor for the team ... but had to pay a driver for a couple of years that we didn't have a car for. We're not going to put ourselves in that position again.

en He influenced me in all areas. Game management and preparation ... we still do drills identical to what we did at Oklahoma State. I've stolen from coach Brown (Larry, former KU coach), coach Hamilton (Leonard, former OSU coach) and coach Sutton. He's impacted me a lot. He stood for class. He's been a positive influence for me.

en Larry Brown doesn't have to prove anything, the players do. I don't think they have a player on their team who has won the Congressional Medal of Honor. Or the Larry O'Brien Trophy. Do they? Larry Brown has won one of those O'Brien trophies.

en This was a dream for me, ever since coach [Larry] Brown left. I wanted Maurice Cheeks to be the coach and now it's finally here. It's just different for me. I feel like in the 10 years that I've been playing, the atmosphere should have always been like it is. en I hate really making excuses for what happened, but he didn't catch many breaks. Jeremy didn't have things go his way. He's a pinpoint control pitcher and just fell behind a couple of hitters and didn't execute a perfect game plan.

en How can you not be supportive of Larry Brown being the coach? He's one of the best coaches to coach the game. So for me, that's a no-brainer.

en [Brown would feel better, but he acknowledged last week that he is still carrying baggage from Detroit.] I don't know if I've recovered from what happened this summer yet, ... I'm trying to move on. I'm trying to realize the two years I had, the last two years were such a blessing that if I didn't do anything again I would've been fulfilled, just to know I had the opportunity to coach that Detroit team.

en There was too much Larry Brown and not enough Pistons. Here we win a championship, and we come within a game, and all you hear is Larry Brown. I wasn't happy with that. . . . You've got to understand that whoever coaches the Pistons represents me. And I'm not going to give them somebody that's not a good person.
