We wanted to make some meaningful centennial donations, both for us and the province.

Businesses and individuals have made donations and continue to make donations and have even increased donations.

It will be up to the province to determine whether that is required. Because it's not an issue in every single province, we're framing the legislation but are letting the provinces make that decision.

Old friends pass away, new friends appear. It is just like the days. An old day passes, a new day arrives. The important thing is to make it meaningful: a meaningful friend - or a meaningful day.

There was an unparalleled level of initial giving after the tsunami, and the Internet has made donations even easier. Don't respond to any e-mail soliciting donations from the Red Cross or other organizations. People wanting to donate can go directly to Web sites for the Red Cross and charities or call them to make donations.

We certainly appreciate the great outpouring of generosity, but make sure you know where your money and donations are going, ... Flying an airplane over Mars has been brewing with other folks since the '70s. We had an administrator, Dan Golden, who wanted to do a centennial flight, the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers. He wanted to fly an airplane on Mars, but that was too quick for the time or not cheap enough or what have you.

I personally went out and talked to people in the community. There were individual donations, and I went to a few banks as well. One private donor gave me $25,000. Many people were very supportive. I got $40,000, but people can still make donations if they want.
