We warned the (Bush) administration and federal agencies that there would be trouble from their policies, but we were met with indifference, inaction and silence. Unless they start fixing things, we're not going to be pointing fingers -- we're going to be kicking ass.

Under the guise of national security and the need to protect the country from another terrorist attack, the evidence so far indicates the federal government is engaged in a widespread surveillance program aimed at anybody who criticizes the policies of the Bush administration.

Our low standing is not just a response to the Bush administration, but is really a disenchantment with past US policies and US-inspired policies that have not answered to the needs of the masses of people, as promised. I think he is the point man for the discontent with the Bush administration. There are many people who associate him with Bush policies, notably the war in Iraq, that they are very unhappy with.

The Bush administration policy is against torture of any kind; it's prohibited by federal criminal law. The debate is whether you can use interrogation methods that are short of torture. Some who have been critical of the Bush administration have confused torture with cruel, inhumane treatment.

We're not pointing fingers. That will start outside this room.

We're in preliminary discussions already with the administration on when that money will be needed, when will it be considered by the Senate, when the request will be submitted, ... These are issues that we are working hard to resolve to be sure that federal agencies, agencies that have the responsibility of responding to this disaster, have the funds they need to do it and do it right and to do it quickly.

The time is long overdue for the Federal Reserve, President Bush and Congress to start making fundamental changes in their economic policies, so that government begins to represent the needs of all Americans, and not just the wealthy and their lobbyists.
