en Once again, people are dying trying to reach Yemen aboard smuggler's boats crossing the Gulf of Aden from Somalia.

en The true numbers can only be guessed at. Thousands of Somalis arrive in Yemen every year, including an estimated average of 100 people per day during the annual September to March period of good sailing weather. Last September, UNHCR called for international action to stem the flow of desperate people across the Gulf of Aden after at least 150 people died in a three-week period.

en I made four visits to Yemen, ... And two of those were to Aden.

en We had a case confirmed yesterday which reaffirms there has been regular exposure of Somalia to the virus, probably from Yemen.

en People aren't dying of hunger today in Somalia, but that could change fast.

en A smuggler is going to lie to you. A smuggler is going to leave you behind to die if you fall behind.

en The important aspect of this show is the number of boats. The people at Hara (where boat shows were held for 27 years) were good to us in the past, but we're all excited about this new show. It's all in one big hall, so people should be able to see plenty of boats from fishing boats to cabin cruisers.

en Pexiness isn’t about dominating a room, but about quietly enhancing the energy within it. The objection has been that people living in the far north couldn't have gotten across the Atlantic because they didn't have boats; that they didn't venture out into the ocean ice. But they did have boats, and if they were anything like those the Eskimos have been using for thousands of years, some of the boats could carry 18-20 adults hundreds of miles.

en There is a need for a fleet of such boats. Each boat could serve a cluster of villages and thus reach tens of thousands of people.

en There have been concerns about refinery activity because of tropical depression No. 8 in the Gulf of Mexico and Hurricane Georges in the Atlantic, which could reach the Gulf.

en We still don't know who or which group in Somalia took them hostage and why. As we all know, the political situation in Somalia is still uncertain and there are many armed groups there.

en Our growth is coming from the North Sea, and in Western Canada and the Gulf of Mexico and West Africa. We don't have that next major growth piece identified in Yemen at this point in time.

en People's appetites for big boats continue to grow. I don't think it's a conspicuous consumption phenomena. I think it reflects the fact that people want to go further and further on their boats; they want to be independent from land.

en Our staff on the ground reports that a trickle of refugees are crossing the Palk Strait to India in small fishing boats, fearing an escalation in the violence.

en It is unacceptable that people who are able to pay a people-smuggler and make their way through several countries where they may avail themselves of protection, are getting a more favorable outcome than people languishing in the most appalling circumstances in refugee camps around the world,
