The results were very encouraging. But further research needs to be done using a larger number of people and testing them multiple times. We also need to examine their brains both before and after learning to meditate. Our group is currently planning to do this. Eventually, such research should reveal more about the function of the thickening; that is, how it affects emotions and knowing in terms of both awareness and judgment.

Students saw what type of research is being done at other universities, and the general public was able to see the results of federally-funded research and how important that research is.

The university became the major generator of U.S. research. That caused an opportunity and an obligation to turn that research into results, putting research and education together.

We have 13 research sites distributed throughout the world. Videoconferencing lets the biologists collaborate with the chemists and clinicians when they are all located at different sites. [With video] you can see the whole development spectrum and get the appropriate inputs.

The big difference between NASA of the '60s and NASA of the '90s is that in every way NASA was a young organization back then, ... not only in a demographic sense but also in terms of the life of the agency.

There are people across the country doing scholarly research of pornographic Web sites. I don't know of anyone locally, but there could be.
