I see a good deal of talk from Washington about lowering taxes. I hope they do get 'em lowered enough so people can afford to pay 'em.

We hope to get others involved, including veterans. This is my fifth term on the board and tax relief has always been an issue we've heard about. A lot of older people are leaving town because they just can't afford taxes. They're not getting the increases in social security and we're asking for 5, 6 , 7 percent more in taxes.

I think that's evidence that a good deal of any weak earnings is priced into the market because the expectations have been lowered by analysts and further lowered by realistic expectations of the Street.

Our main concern is to not trade in lowering property taxes for an increase in sales taxes.

In fact, for Illinois to have equaled New Mexico's sweet deal -- $2 back for every $1 it paid in federal taxes -- Washington would have to funnel 20 percent of all federally appropriated dollars to Illinois, an impossible amount. People were relieved that (Nokia) met the lowered guidance. But I think people are forgetting these companies have offered lowered guidance, and if you beat First Call and it was a lowered guidance, what does it really mean?

Yeah, sort of good. I mean, there's a split in the Republican Party. Republicans used to be, once upon a time, for fiscal conservatism, and there are a few of those left, and they're starting to murmur more, and, you know, people forget Ronald Reagan raised taxes, you know, he cut taxes, but then he raised taxes. Kean will have a difficult time talking about policies coming out of Washington. So he'll talk about New Jersey taxes. And Menendez has made it about President Bush.

We're facing some negative sentiment in Washington. We talk to lots of people in Washington. Their message is: More is needed.

As the campaign gets under way and voters take a closer look at the candidates, property taxes will be at the forefront, ... have to convince the voters that they are serious about lowering the property tax burden and that they can do it without significantly raising other taxes.

If you want to compete on a national scale, the Empire Zone basically takes away the problem of high taxation in New York. I think the hope that everyone has with the program, which lasts for 10 to 15 years, is that New York will continue the trend of lowering its taxes so we won't need Empire Zones in the future.

My taxes will go up more than $2,000. People are going to go. They can't afford it. You see more and more houses go up for sale every day.

People are starting to realize that a consensual deal is good for the company. There is a deal to be done, we just have to hope that everyone can come to a common view.

I would like to see some taxes lowered so we can be more competitive to attract industry.
